INSEAD India Business Dialogue

In November 2012, INSEAD held its second India Business Dialogue at the Taj Vivanta at Yeshwantpur in Bangalore. The event, sponsored by the INSEAD Leadership Programme for Senior Indian Executives, is geared toward senior Indian executives with the purpose of allowing these executives to build relationships and engage in thought exchange with fellow business leaders, entrepreneurs, and those whose interests lie in delving into India’s high-growth economy and high-potential for starting new ventures.

The topic for the second India Business Dialogue was “Building New Ventures”. Indian entrepreneurs and businesses are too often faced with insufficient infrastructure, governance and resources to fully build their business from the ground of a start-up to an up-and-coming high-growth company. However, as India represents the fifth largest economy and one of the fastest growing economies in the world, businesses that wish to be at the top of success as a new economy emerges must learn to overcome these challenges. In fact, many already are through innovations in information technology, health care, manufacturing and hospitality. To continue overcoming these obstacles, event topics of discussion included how to bring a venture from a seedling idea to an attainable business, the ecosystem bottlenecks that are holding back start-up ventures, how to attract the best talent with a smart budget and build on human capital in a fast-growing economy, and how to become a leader of civil government reform in India.

Topics were led by a wide range of academics, businessmen and businesswomen, political leaders and entrepreneurs, including: Madan Padaki, Co-Founder and Director of MeritTrac Services; Krishnan Ganesh, Founder and CEO of TutorVista.com; Suresh Soni, Chairman and CEO of Nova Medical Center; Ramesh Ramanathan, Co-Founder of Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy; and Paddy Padmanabhan, Professor of Marketing at The John H. Loudon Chaired Professor of International Management, INSEAD-Singapore.

The first India Business Dialogue was held earlier in 2012 in February at the Taj Lands End Hotel in Mumbai. The topic of the event was “Entrepreneurial Leadership: Driving India’s Growth”, speaking on how India’s leaders can learn to identify growth opportunities and how to act on them to reach maximum business growth. Combined, the February and November events distinctly illustrate INSEAD’s commitment to understanding the key factors that drive India’s growth, to educating leaders on management innovation in India and globally, and to developing new markets, such as India’s.
