New Fellowship for Women at Harvard Business School

In April of 2013, Harvard Business School celebrated the 50th anniversary of admitting the first woman into its MBA program. In honor of the landmark anniversary, the HBS Women’s Student Association (WSA) established a fellowship available to second year students – the first year for a new tradition that is hoped to be carried our for many more years to come. The fellowship was established with the intention of helping to clear obstacles that women may face in achieving their goals as business leaders, as well as encourage and support women to pursue at MBA degree at HBS.

The HBS Women’s Student Association Fellowship will be open for all second year women students at HBS who exhibit leadership qualities in spreading the word for creating women leaders, promoting forums where women can be recognized for their accomplishments, endorsing HBS to potential female admits, and helping to develop mentorship programs with alumni, faculty and students. The winner of the award will empower women to success and will exhibit qualities of a business leader. The annual award will be given based on financial need in a sum of up to $20,000. While only one award will be granted annually, the fellowship is expected to be able to recur annually for many more years to come, thanks to the many donors of WSA.

The WSA was established in 2008 through generous donations from HBS family and friends with the goal of empowering and developing outstanding female business leaders. In addition, the WSA is sponsored by many top-tier businesses such as Deloitte, McKinsey & Company, Fidelity Investments, and Goldman Sachs to name a few. The WSA receives donations from these invaluable partners and maintains close ties with its sponsor companies, donor partners and alumni. These donations are the source of funding for the fellowship and also open up many opportunities for networking for the members of WSA. Since its inception in 2008, the WSA has played a critical role on- and off-campus in recruiting female business leaders, providing HBS women with supportive resources such as networking events, speaker series, and social and community events.
