Women’s Week at Chicago Booth

This year kicks off the University of Chicago Booth School of Business’ tenth annual women’s week – a unique collaboration between Booth’s Office of Full-Time Admissions and the Chicago Women in Business Alumnae Network (CWIBAN). These events are scattered throughout the month of May around the world, inviting prospective students to get to know Booth through a woman’s eye.

The timing for the event is perfect, starting in May, when many women are beginning to look at MBA programs for which to apply. It may also provide recent Booth admits an excellent opportunity to get to know Booth alumnae and begin building a networking web. Last year, in 2013, the informal receptions traveled around the world from Atlanta, Phoenix, and New York City to Madrid, Dubai, and Rio de Janeiro. Additionally, because there were so many locations hosting Women’s Week (32 locations total), some of the events were quite small in size (less than 50 people, depending on the location) and provided an ideal setting to get to know some of the esteemed Booth alumnae, while others tended to be much larger, giving attendees a perfect setting to gain many new contacts. Each event throughout the month offers a casual and friendly environment in which to meet alumni, ask important questions about being a successful woman in business, meeting colleagues with similar interests and goals, and having meaningful conversations with admirable women.

CWIBAN is a worldwide organization cohosting and facilitating these events, drawing together over 4,500 alumni on six continents. It is recognized as one of the most active groups at Booth, facilitating both in-person and online events throughout the year. They not only promote professional development for women, but also organize social events, provide support to the community, and guide women on successful career advice and life strategies. Additionally, CWIBAN works extensively with the Booth Office of Full-Time Admissions on boosting female applicants to the school’s MBA program through a Women Recruitment Campaign, which includes events such as Women’s Week, making the organization an excellent resource for current MBA students and prospective female MBA candidates.
