A pair of new Master of Science programs with a global focus are coming to New York University’s Stern School of Business next year, thanks to a partnership with NYU Shanghai, the university’s Shanghai campus.
In June 2022, NYU Stern and NYU Shanghai will begin classes for two new jointly offered degrees: an MS in Organization Management & Strategy as well as an MS in Marketing and Retail Science.
Both programs will comprise 12 months of full-time study, including one semester in New York and two in Shanghai.
The programs are targeted at recent college graduates interested in pursuing careers in China or in Asia more generally.
The degrees build on existing joint MS offerings from NYU Stern and NYU Shanghai, such as an MS in Quantitative Finance and an MS in Data Analytics & Business Computing.
The curriculum for the new MS in Organization Management & Strategy includes a range of courses relating to leadership and management skills as well as a course that delves into innovation in the context of Chinese organizations more specifically.
Meanwhile, the curriculum for the MS in Marketing & Retail Science reflects an analytical emphasis, with courses involving statistics, Python and data analysis complementing marketing topics. There is also a course looking at retail technology in the Chinese market.
In addition to coursework, both new MS programs feature opportunities such as company visits, coaching and guest speakers.
Jeffrey Lehman, NYU Shanghai’s vice chancellor, explained that the programs were designed around “innovative courses that will ground students in foundational knowledge and skills while also illuminating newer trends.”
He predicted that “students will receive a rich education that will equip them to contend with the forces driving the rapid transformations that define global business today.”
NYU Shanghai’s chancellor, Tong Shijun, emphasized that the new offerings fit with “NYU Shanghai’s mission to create educational opportunities that encourage international engagement and global perspectives.”
As a B-school applicant, you might be wondering whether programs like NYU’s new MS offerings that have a strong international bent can help you meet your career goals. You might also be wondering whether a one-year MS or a two-year MBA is a better fit to your situation.
