{"id":11404,"date":"2012-05-10T07:10:20","date_gmt":"2012-05-10T14:10:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gmatclub.com\/blog\/?p=11404"},"modified":"2012-05-10T07:10:20","modified_gmt":"2012-05-10T14:10:20","slug":"gre-vs-gmat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gmatclub.com\/blog\/gre-vs-gmat\/","title":{"rendered":"GRE vs GMAT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/press.kaptest.com\/press-releases\/kaplan-test-prep-survey-although-most-top-business-schools-now-accept-the-gre-as-an-alternative-to-the-gmat-only-16-of-future-business-school-applicants-considered-the-gre-option\" target=\"_blank\">Kaplan <\/a>announced last week the results of a survey showing that only 16% of business school applicants even <em>considered<\/em> taking the GRE despite the fact that most business school say they will accept either the <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.accepted.com\/tag\/gre\/\">GRE<\/a> or the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accepted.com\/mba\/gmat.aspx\">GMAT<\/a>. Kaplan assumes that the real issue is ignorance of the many, many programs that accept the GRE.<\/p>\n<p>However, a different issue caught my eye in the press release: \"According to a separate Kaplan survey of business school admissions officers, applicants who submit a GMAT score have a slight admissions advantage over applicants who submit a GRE score.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Whoa! Depending on how big is \"slight,\" an admissions advantage would be a reason to take the GMAT over the GRE, assuming one could earn equivalent percentile scores on both exams.<\/p>\n<p>I actually commented on this <a href=\"https:\/\/plus.google.com\/u\/0\/103406411743663417892\/posts\/co6upcr1FaM\" target=\"_blank\">Kaplan survey and press release<\/a> in my G+ page the day it came out, but to me the line about admission directors not viewing the exams as equivalent makes the two tests not equivalent. If you can do well on the GMAT and are applying to highly competitive schools, go for the gold, which still appears to be the GMAT.
