{"id":16740,"date":"2013-01-30T12:07:47","date_gmt":"2013-01-30T19:07:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gmatclub.com\/blog\/?p=16740"},"modified":"2013-01-30T12:09:08","modified_gmt":"2013-01-30T19:09:08","slug":"integrated-reasoning-6-months-later","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gmatclub.com\/blog\/integrated-reasoning-6-months-later\/","title":{"rendered":"Integrated Reasoning: 6 Months Later"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gmatclub.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/GRE-test-prep.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-16743\" title=\"GMAT\" src=\"https:\/\/gmatclub.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/GRE-test-prep-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gmatclub.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/GRE-test-prep-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/gmatclub.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/GRE-test-prep-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gmatclub.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/GRE-test-prep.jpg 319w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>Two recent GMAC articles (\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmac.com\/why-gmac\/gmac-news\/gmnews\/2013\/january-2013\/integrated-reasoning-and-admissions.aspx\">Integrated Reasoning and Admissions<\/a>\u201d and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmac.com\/why-gmac\/gmac-news\/gmnews\/2013\/january-2013\/demystifying-the-gmat-what-we-know-about-ir-6-months-after-launch.aspx\">Demystifying the GMAT: What We Know About IR 6 Months After Launch<\/a>\u201d) talk about the demystification of the six-month-old Integrated Reasoning section of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accepted.com\/mba\/gmat.aspx\">GMAT<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A few points:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Did this section put any of the following groups at a disadvantage: non-native English speakers, non-US citizens, non-white test takers, and non-business undergrad majors?<\/strong> Results show less than one quarter or a standard deviation \u2013 the \u201cobserved differences are psychometrically minor and practically inconsequential.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Does the IR section adequately predict core course grades? <\/strong>New analysis shows that the introduction of IR will increase the average multiple R to .59 or higher \u2013 this is compared to an average multiple R of .53 in 2008 (without the IR section).<\/li>\n<li><strong>What does the IR section contribute beyond verbal and quant testing? <\/strong>The study shows that IR tests something \u201cmore\u201d than the original two sections, and that is \u201cthe ability to synthesize information from multiple sources and formats, evaluate output and identify possible solutions, consider alternative decisions, and predict outcomes.\u201d It also gives business schools another data point to consider when evaluating candidates and predicts how well students will do in a business setting.<\/li>\n<li><strong>How do employers and alumni view IR?<\/strong> According to the data, 85% of employers consider IR skills as \u201crelevant or very relevant.\u201d 97% of employers interviewed said that they value IR-related skill sets \u2013 including the ability to organize, integrate, synthesize, and combine information \u2013 as important.
