{"id":21218,"date":"2013-10-25T05:37:08","date_gmt":"2013-10-25T12:37:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gmatclub.com\/blog\/?p=21218"},"modified":"2013-10-22T20:37:19","modified_gmt":"2013-10-23T03:37:19","slug":"understanding-b-school-rankings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gmatclub.com\/blog\/understanding-b-school-rankings\/","title":{"rendered":"Understanding B-School Rankings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For anyone perplexed about why so much variability exists between the different well-known <a title=\"b-school rankings\" href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/mattsymonds\/2013\/10\/15\/the-best-business-schools-of-2013-the-ranking-of-mba-rankings\/\" target=\"_blank\">MBA rankings<\/a>, <strong>Matt Symonds's<\/strong> recent article in <em>Forbes<\/em> does a great job of demystifying the subject.<\/p>\n<p>In plain terms, he explains the focus of the methodology used by each of the five major business school rankings---<em>US News<\/em>, <em>The Economist<\/em>, <em>Forbes<\/em>, <em>BusinessWeek<\/em>, <em>Financial Times<\/em>---and shares how he and his team have compiled the results of the big five MBA rankings of the last 12 months to produce the <a title=\"MBA50 rankings\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mba50.com\/mba-rankings\/\" target=\"_blank\">MBA50.com Premiership<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"stcpDiv\">I don\u2019t like to encourage clients to focus too heavily on rankings when they\u2019re making their MBA program selections, since obsessing over rankings can actually hinder applicants' research process. But I do think Symond's easy-to-absorb explainer of what each of the major rankings is actually based on can be quite helpful.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, if you're very focused on making sure your program of choice will provide a sizable return on investment, then the <em>Forbes<\/em> list may be the most useful to you.
