CaseWorks Student Fellows at Columbia <\/strong><\/p>\n Columbia CaseWorks is a program that uses faculty expertise and student creativity to build educational case studies for use during classroom learning. Recently, Columbia launched a CaseWorks Student Fellows Program, where between six and eight students are selected annually to become aids in developing classroom case studies that will be utilized school-wide. By becoming a CaseWorks Student Fellow, students have the opportunity to work closely with some of Columbia Business School\u2019s top professors and lead thought engineers on case development and strategic thinking. <\/p>\n Columbia CaseWorks are compiled into three key structures: (1) Traditional cases, which equip students with a detailed description of a company and a specific issue or decision for investigative debate; (2) Analytical cases, which are shorter in length and are composed of a short synopsis of the situation accompanied by data sets, journal articles, letters, and research from which students must make forthright decisions from the information given; (3) Research briefs, which outline detailed research on a specific business decision or issue to give students a comprehensive understanding of the relevance and importance of faculty research. <\/p>\n CaseWorks Student Fellows are funded by Columbia Caseworks and have contributed to the creation of currently in-use case studies on wide ranges of real issues, such as creating incentive programs for inner city teachers, how to improve customer interaction through hypothetical statistical processes, and the key factors in product positioning that have actively contributed to greater success of breakaway products such as Yellow Tail Wine. Columbia CaseWorks is headed by Professor Stephen Zeldes, Benjamin Rosen Professor of Finance and Economics, who follows the belief that the case study method is an effective means of equipping students with practical business knowledge to succeed in a constantly shifting environment.
