{"id":23120,"date":"2014-03-04T13:20:04","date_gmt":"2014-03-04T20:20:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gmatclub.com\/blog\/2014\/03\/gmat-success-is-in-the-details\/"},"modified":"2014-03-04T13:20:04","modified_gmt":"2014-03-04T20:20:04","slug":"gmat-success-is-in-the-details","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gmatclub.com\/blog\/gmat-success-is-in-the-details\/","title":{"rendered":"GMAT Success is in the Details"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/gmat.kaptest.com\/2014\/03\/04\/gmat-success-is-in-the-details\/\" title=\"GMAT palm scan\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"GMAT palm scan\" src=\"https:\/\/gmat.kaptest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/GMAT-palm-scan.jpg\" alt=\"GMAT Success is in the Details\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>A little thing here or there doesn\u2019t usually make a lot of difference.\u00a0 But when you aggregate, knowing some of the little things about the\u00a0<a title=\"GMAT\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kaptest.com\/GMAT\/About-the-GMAT\/index.html?cmp=blog:gmat_030414\" target=\"_blank\">GMAT<\/a>\u00a0can be a big help on\u00a0<a title=\"Test Day\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kaptest.com\/GMAT\/About-the-GMAT\/how-to-register-for-the-gmat.html?cmp=blog:gmat_030414\" target=\"_blank\">Test Day<\/a>.\u00a0 In this blog post, I am going to highlight some unexpected or otherwise novel little tidbits. \u00a0This list is not comprehensive, of course, but I believe you'll find it contributes to your GMAT success on test day.\u00a0 If you have anything you\u2019d like to add, please do so in the comments.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your photograph taken at the testing center on test day will be sent to schools.\u00a0 That\u2019s right, folks.\u00a0 Just when you thought it was safe to wear your lucky shirt\u2014you know, the one with the crass cartoon of a feral dog at a cocktail party\u2014Big Brother steps in and spoils it for you.\u00a0 According to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mba.com\/the-gmat\/gmat-scores-and-score-reports\/understanding-your-score-report.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">GMAC\u2019s website<\/a>, your test day photograph as well as any voluntarily reported background information (e.g., undergrad GPA, phone number, intended area of graduate study, etc.) will be sent along with your score report to any of your selected recipients if they have requested to receive such information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Full copies of your\u00a0Analytical Writing Assessment\u00a0essay will be sent to schools.\u00a0 Whether\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kaptest.com\/GMAT\/Business-School\/index.html?cmp=blog:gmat_030414\" target=\"_blank\">admissions\u00a0<\/a>officers actually read these essays we can never know, but we do know that those officers can read them if they want to.\u00a0 What does this mean for you?\u00a0 Eh, not much.\u00a0 You are going to learn how to write a top scoring essay way before you sit for the exam and the one you write on test day will be one of several well-composed writing samples you\u2019ve completed.\u00a0 In fact, you\u2019ll\u00a0<em>want<\/em>\u00a0people to read it because it will be\u00a0<em>that<\/em>\u00a0good!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The unique pattern of the veins in your palms will be used to identify you.\u00a0\u00a0Who doesn\u2019t love a good biometric identification device? \u00a0Come on, we don\u2019t live in the future just to offer up a driver\u2019s license or a finger print. \u00a0We want computers to scan our veins! \u00a0In addition to having\u00a0<em>both<\/em>\u00a0<a title=\"Palm Scan\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mba.com\/us\/the-gmat-exam\/prepare-for-the-gmat-exam\/plan-for-test-day\/palm-vein-reader.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">palms scanned<\/a>, you will also have to bring valid photo identification, allow your picture to be taken at the test center, and sign a digital signature pad.\u00a0 Oh, and you\u2019ll have to scan your palms every time you re-enter the testing room\u2014for example, after using the rest room during one of the two 8-minute breaks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>You receive your GMAT score instantly.\u00a0 You will have to wait to receive your AWA and IR scores as well as a breakdown of your total score, but as soon as you choose to\u00a0<a title=\"Accept your scores\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.kaplangmat.com\/2011\/12\/01\/never-cancel-your-gmat-score\/\" target=\"_blank\">accept your scores<\/a>\u2026 TA-DA!!!\u00a0 Your 200-800 point\u00a0GMAT score\u00a0will appear on the screen in front of you instantaneously.\u00a0 When I took the GMAT, this took me completely off guard, actually.\u00a0 I knew I\u2019d get my score on the same day, but the speed with which it flashed on the screen startled me.\u00a0 I think I actually jumped and gasped in the same way I would at the unanticipated sight of a latex zombie in a haunted house at the state fair.\u00a0 However, unlike the zombie, my score looked beautiful.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>You can only take the GMAT once every 31 days and only up to 5 times within a 12 month period.\u00a0 The good news is that since you did such a wonderful job preparing for the exam the first time, this information won\u2019t apply to you.\u00a0 However, I do recommend a thorough understanding of what taking the GMAT twice really means and what it doesn\u2019t.\u00a0 This knowledge about the frequency at which you can sit for the exam may be of some help when planning your b-school application timeline.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Preparing for the GMAT takes longer than you think.\u00a0 I wrote about this in a previous blog article that I suggest you\u00a0<a title=\"GMAT Needs a Runway\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.kaplangmat.com\/2012\/04\/08\/the-gmat-needs-a-runway\/\" target=\"_blank\">read right now<\/a>.\u00a0 This may well be the most vicious of the unexpected and is arguably a bit out of place on a list of \u201clittle things.\u201d\u00a0 However, since we\u2019re talking about aspects of the GMAT that may surprise you, a long prep runway is something you can and should plan to lay out for yourself.\u00a0 Respect the test.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The post <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/gmat.kaptest.com\/2014\/03\/04\/gmat-success-is-in-the-details\/\">GMAT Success is in the Details<\/a> appeared first on <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/gmat.kaptest.com\">Kaplan GMAT Blog<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A little thing here or there doesn\u2019t usually make a lot of difference.\u00a0 But when you aggregate, knowing some of the little things about the\u00a0GMAT\u00a0can be a big help on\u00a0Test&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":120,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"1","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[9,558,243,940],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-23120","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-gmat","category-kaplan-blog","category-blog","category-gmat-prep-gmat","entry"],"aioseo_notices":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/gmatclub.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/23120","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/gmatclub.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/gmatclub.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/gmatclub.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/120"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/gmatclub.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=23120"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/gmatclub.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/23120\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/gmatclub.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=23120"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/gmatclub.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=23120"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/gmatclub.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=23120"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
