He had been drafted by the NBA and subsequently awarded lucrative endorsement deals and multi-million-dollar contracts. You’d think he would never have to worry about money again…and so did he. By 2010, he was deep in debt and filing for bankruptcy after squandering his money on a series of bad real estate investments and luxuries like high-priced condos, designer watches, and a Maybach. Reflecting on these poor financial decisions, Walker said that if he could do it all over again, he “would definitely get an MBA today.” (Bloomberg BusinessWeek)

Wake Forest parts with convention

Wake Forest University is out going out of the business of traditional daytime business school education. The university announced last week that its School of Business will continue to offer flexible MBA programs for working professionals at night in Winston Salem and on nights and weekends in Charlotte. However, it will no longer accept new students to its full-time, two-year program. U.S. News & World Report currently ranks Wake Forest as the 58th “best” business school in the United States. When Kaplan first began tracking this trend in 2009, that figure was only 24%. What a difference a few years (not to mention major test changes and heavy marketing from the test maker) make! To do this, he says a big culture change at business schools is needed.
