From changes in the business school applicant pool due to current economic trends to a sacked socialist government official heading back to business school, as well as soon-to-be-updated <i>U.S. News and World Report<\/i> rankings for MBA programs, there\u2019s a lot to share!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Newly minted MBAs from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsb.stanford.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Stanford\u2019s Graduate School of Business<\/a> made finance the industry of choice once again this year. Why? Money. And lots of it. Think incredibly lucrative compensation packages. Nearly 30% of 2014 Stanford Graduate School graduates accepted job offers in finance, up from about a 25% last year. Forget those who say finance is out of favor in MBA programs\u2014it\u2019s still very much a top choice. (<a href=\"https:\/\/qz.com\/290839\/stanford-mbas-tech-is-out-finance-is-in\/\" target=\"_blank\">Quartz<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Changes in the economy and culture have transformed the makeup of the business school applicant pool. Knowing these trends can help you craft your MBA application and improve your chances of getting in. Former French Economy Minister Arnaud Montebourg is going back to school to learn how to run a business. The Socialist official, who was replaced by former investment banker Emmanuel Macron in a Cabinet reshuffle this summer due to his attack on the government\u2019s economic policies, is slated to attend the well-respected <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insead.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Insead Business School<\/a>. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.france24.com\/en\/20141103-sacked-french-economy-minister-montebourg-business-school\/\" target=\"_blank\">France 24<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The dean at the <a href=\"https:\/\/business.gwu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">George Washington School of Business<\/a> wants to recruit MBAs from what she sees as overlooked regions in higher education: Latin America, the Middle East, and India. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gwhatchet.com\/2014\/11\/03\/business-school-turns-to-india-latin-america-and-middle-east-to-recruit-grad-students\/\" target=\"_blank\">The GW Hatchet<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Could Facebook\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sheryl_Sandberg\" target=\"_blank\">Sheryl Sandberg<\/a>, a Harvard MBA, become Twitter\u2019s new CEO? (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wallstreet.org\/2014\/11\/could-sheryle-sandberg-become-the-new-ceo-of-twitter-nysetwtr\/145219.html\" target=\"_blank\">WallStreet.org<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>One of the perks of going to a top business school is that, from time to time, big names will just stop by to drop some wisdom on your soul. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessweek.com\/articles\/2014-11-03\/business-school-event-calendar-for-the-week-of-november-3-2014\" target=\"_blank\">Bloomberg BusinessWeek<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><i>U.S. News &amp; World Report<\/i> began its statistical surveys for graduate schools\u2014including MBA programs\u2014earlier this month, kicking off data collection for the rankings in the 2016 edition of <a href=\"https:\/\/grad-schools-stag.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com\/best-graduate-schools\" target=\"_blank\"><i>Best Graduate Schools<\/i><\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The new rankings will be released in late winter or early spring. The University of Hawaii Business School recently received one of the largest private individual donations in the history of college education: $69 million. The generous donor, for whom the university\u2019s Shidler College of Business is already named, gave $31 million a few years ago. UH alumnus Jay Shidler\u2019s rationale? To make his total contribution to the college an even $100 million. Talk about rounding up!
