{"id":29066,"date":"2015-06-16T13:29:29","date_gmt":"2015-06-16T20:29:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gmatclub.com\/blog\/?p=29066"},"modified":"2015-06-16T13:29:29","modified_gmt":"2015-06-16T20:29:29","slug":"michigan-ross-2016-mba-essay-tips-deadlines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gmatclub.com\/blog\/michigan-ross-2016-mba-essay-tips-deadlines\/","title":{"rendered":"Michigan Ross 2016 MBA Essay Tips &#038; Deadlines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.accepted.com\/resources\/mba-admissions\/mba-essay-tip-posts\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-16666\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.accepted.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Ross2-300x205.jpg\" alt=\"Click here for more top b-school application essay tips!\" width=\"277\" height=\"189\" \/><\/a>Michigan Ross\u00a0essentially condensed last year's\u00a0two required questions into one and added a goals essay question. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Review<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/michiganross.umich.edu\/programs\/full-time-mba\/application-requirements\" target=\"_blank\">Ross' Evaluation Criteria<\/a>\u00a0and A<a href=\"https:\/\/michiganross.umich.edu\/admissions-blog\/2015\/05\/20\/here-are-new-essay-questions-michigan-ross-mba-application\" target=\"_blank\">dmissions Director Soojin Kwon's <strong><em>excellent<\/em> <\/strong>blog post on the new questions<\/a>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">before you sit down to write the essays. Most importantly\u00a0remember: your essays should reveal the qualities Ross seeks -- not just mouth them. Show that you walk the walk, not just talk the talk.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">My comments are in blue below.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bus.umich.edu\/Admissions\/Fulltime_Essays.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Essays<\/a>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1. \u00a0<\/strong>What are you most proud of and why? How does it shape who you are today? <em>(up to 400 words)<\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"stcpDiv\">\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The first part of the question is fairly straightforward. <a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.accepted.com\/2013\/06\/23\/what-is-an-accomplishment-2\/\" target=\"_blank\">What are you truly proud of<\/a>? The reasons for your pride and the influence of this experience require thought and soul-searching. And of course, you only have 400 words.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Possible examples: Contributed significantly\u00a0to\u00a0your team, department, company, or club. Raised money for a favorite charity. Organized a political event. Engaged in interfaith dialogue that broke down communications barriers. Led a sports team to victory. \u00a0Or perhaps, overcoming a significant personal challenge. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">If possible, quantify this part of your answer. Numbers are a great way to show both contribution and impact. \u00a0However, if your #1 achievement is qualitative or difficult to quantify, don\u2019t let lack of numbers stop you from using it. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Your response to \"why?\" is extremely important. \u00a0As Soojin Kwon writes on her blog \"We want to understand what makes something important to you. It gives us a glimpse into how you think about and process things, and what your priorities and values are.\" Choose the reasons that genuinely reflect who you are and also show fit with Ross and its values.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">For the third part of the question (how did it shape who you are today?), think and then focus. Choose one or two lessons from this accomplishment that\u00a0changed how you think or behave and describe those changes. \u00a0You don\u2019t have room for many lessons learned, so select the most important.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"stcpDiv\">\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Please don\u2019t write that you learned you can do anything you put your mind to. That response is cliched and not really true. There are limits to what you can do. A good response will show\u00a0how this crucial\u00a0experience has molded you.<\/span><strong>2. \u00a0<\/strong>What is your desired career path and why?<em> (up to 400 words)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">What do you want to do after you earn your MBA? This question doesn't limit itself to your first job. It ask for the \"path\" and is asking how would you like to see\u00a0your career progress. \u00a0Why is this path appealing to you? <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">You can <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.accepted.com\/2012\/08\/01\/7-signs-an-experience-belongs-in-your-application-essay\/\" target=\"_blank\">point to 1-3 experiences<\/a> (don't focus on\u00a0the same one used in your response to #1) that convinced you that the desired one is right for you. Analyze the impact of these events. Highlight\u00a01-3 aspects of these experiences that you enjoyed that will also be part of your desired future direction.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Right genuinely about your future career, but realize as Soojin Kwon says that Ross uses the answers to see if business school makes sense. Ross doesn't want to admit you if its\u00a0MBA won't help you go where you want to go professionally. \u00a0Show that a Ross MBA in the missing link between what you have done in the past and what you
