Use your essays as a platform for expressing your earnest\u00a0desire to enter the world of management and to make a difference.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">I strongly recommend Tuck applicants read <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/poetsandquants.com\/2013\/08\/17\/the-mba-gatekeeper-to-dartmouths-tuck-school-of-business\/3\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #509ac9;\">The MBA Gatekeeper To Dartmouth\u2019s Tuck School of Business<\/span><\/a>,\u201d <\/span><em>Poets and Quants<\/em> interview with Dawna Clarke, Director of Admissions at Tuck. The article is\u00a0a couple of years old, but still worth reading if you are applying to Tuck. I also recommend you review Dartmouth's\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tuck.dartmouth.edu\/admissions\/evaluation-criteria\" target=\"_blank\">six evaluation criteria for admission<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Tuck tweaked its Essay #1 and #2, but the optional is unchanged.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Tuck provides length guidelines, not limits. \u00a0That \"encouragement\" and gentle suggestion\u00a0gives you a little leeway. Please don't make the mistake of abusing that typical Tuck friendliness. There are no right or wrong answers. <em>We encourage applicants to limit the length of their responses to 500 words for each essay. Please double-space your responses.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>1.<\/strong> What are your short- and long-term goals? Why do you need an MBA to achieve those goals? Why are you interested in Tuck specifically?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">I've said it before, and I'll say it again: The MBA is a means to an end, not an end in itself. That's why Tuck (and many other schools) ask question like this one.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Tuck wants to know that it can help you achieve your\u00a0goal. \u00a0So clearly you have to have both <a href=\"https:\/\/info.accepted.com\/mba\/why-mba\" target=\"_blank\">short- and long-term goals<\/a> to respond to the question. \u00a0And then you need to explain how\u00a0an MBA will help you realize\u00a0those goals and finally, why Tuck is the best place to do so. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">You have to know \u00a0Tuck as well as your goals to respond effectively to this question. Why do you want a small, tight-knit program in rural New Hampshire?\u00a0Why do you want a program that stresses the integration of business functions? \u00a0Which of Tuck\u2019s strengths appeal to you? How will they help you achieve your goals?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong> Tell us about your most meaningful leadership experience and what role you played. How will that experience contribute to the learning environment at Tuck?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">This question reflects the importance Tuck, like many MBA programs, places on <span style=\"color: #509ac9;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/info.accepted.com\/leadership-in-admissions\" target=\"_blank\">leadership<\/a><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">,<\/span><\/span>\u00a0and Tuck really wants to see you as a leader.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Have you chaired\u00a0 a fundraiser that raised a record amount of money?\u00a0Have you been a board member for a not-for-profit organization? Have you captained a sports team that led your company league? Have you been a team lead on a project that came in early and under budget? Are you the head of a sales team who\u00a0empowered other members of your team in a way that greatly contributed to the success of that initiative? These could all be examples of leadership. How did you motivate your teammates? Tell the story of that event.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Then, how will your leadership style and the lessons learned through this experience enable you to contribute? Tuck treasures its close-knit, collaborative culture and values teamwork. \u00a0How does this experience reveal about you and how you will interact with the MBA community at Dartmouth.\u00a0In answering the last question, don't\u00a0fall into the trap of answering\u00a0\"What do they want to hear?\"\u00a0What do you most want them to know?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong> <em>(Optional)<\/em> Please provide any additional insight or information that you have not addressed elsewhere that may be helpful in reviewing your application (e.g., unusual choice of evaluators, weaknesses in academic performance, unexplained job gaps or changes, etc.). Complete this question only if you feel your candidacy is not fully represented by this application.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">It is almost impossible for two (or even three) 500-word essays plus a bunch of boxes, a transcript, and a GMAT score to represent fully the uniqueness and talents of a truly impressive candidate. That comment has nothing to do with writing style and everything to do with the complexity of accomplished human beings. In my opinion this \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.accepted.com\/2012\/03\/25\/optional-essays-when-and-how-to-write-them\/\"><span style=\"color: #509ac9;\">optional essay<\/span><\/a>\u201d\u00a0 is optional in name only.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">At the same time, don\u2019t waste the reader\u2019s time by writing a meaningless, superficial \u201cgrand finale\u201d or summary. Don\u2019t repeat what can be found elsewhere.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>4.<\/strong> <em>(To be completed by all reapplicants)<\/em> How have you strengthened your candidacy since you last applied? Please reflect on how you have grown personally and professionally.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Straightforward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accepted.com\/mba\/reapplication.aspx\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #509ac9;\">MBA reapplication question<\/span><\/a>.
