Don\u2019t view your resume as an afterthought; it should\u00a0<\/b><b style=\"line-height: 1.5;\"><i>not\u00a0<\/i><\/b><b style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">be your last priority.<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Your resume provides an amazing opportunity to share a snapshot of your candidacy with the admissions committee. This is your chance to introduce yourself and leave a positive first impression.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>2. Basic job descriptions\u00a0<\/b><b><i>just won\u2019t cut it.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">When\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.accepted.com\/Zones\/bschools.aspx\">top b-school<\/a>\u00a0adcoms quickly scan a resume (which is what they do at first), they\u2019re looking for career progression. Even a list of the most impressive jobs won\u2019t mean nearly as much to an adcom as a list of impressive jobs that show that a candidate has achieved goals, been promoted, and has generally made an impact on his or her surroundings.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">3. Do\u00a0<\/b><b style=\"line-height: 1.5;\"><i>not\u00a0<\/i><\/b><b style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">submit a\u00a0<\/b><b style=\"line-height: 1.5;\"><i>job<\/i><\/b><b style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">\u00a0resume as part of your MBA application.<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Your\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.accepted.com\/mba\/resume.aspx\">MBA resume<\/a>\u00a0should not include industry-specific or technical lingo that you might include on a resume for, say, an IT position. The details on your resume should be as accessible as possible to the widest circle of readers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">4. When formatting your resume,\u00a0<\/b><b style=\"line-height: 1.5;\"><i>standards trump creativity<\/i><\/b><b style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">.<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Review the resume standards for your target school. Check out resources at the school\u2019s career services department to find out how you should standardize your tenses, punctuation, and formatting. Don\u2019t bold headings if your school-specific format doesn\u2019t bold headings, for example.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>5<i>. Don\u2019t<\/i><\/b><b> offer information overload.<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">That means no SAT or GMAT scores, no high school education, and no references. The school will have all of that information from other parts of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accepted.com\/mba\/default.aspx\">your application<\/a>. Needless to say, date of birth, marital status, height, and weight should be excluded.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>6.<i> Don\u2019t\u00a0<\/i><\/b><b>forget to edit.<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">A resume that hasn\u2019t been spell-checked, grammar-checked, and reviewed by an extra set (or two) of eyes, will probably have errors, and therefore won\u2019t make a very good first impression.<\/p>\n<p><b>Need help perfecting your MBA admissions resume?
