\"Download<\/a>For its 2016 MBA application, Rotman has introduced a new, timed, written response question that must be completed in addition to their two existing video questions. <\/span><\/p>\n

According to the <\/span>Rotman blog<\/span><\/a>, the purpose of this new exercise is as follows: <\/span><\/p>\n

We identified a need to find a tool to better assess the regular business-communication skills and \u2018voice\u2019 of our applicants.\u00a0We find a great deal of value in essays \u2013 which are reflective writing pieces, and also in the GMAT AWA \u2013 a component that showcases a candidate\u2019s ability to dissect and discuss a topic. These tools reflect some of the communication skills required for success in our Program, and in the business world broadly but we were missing an opportunity to see the more casual and real-time style our students use most frequently to write emails communicating with team members, professors, etc. and a style that they will carry forward in their careers. There is no \u201cright\u201d answer to this component \u2013 our team is\u00a0simply\u00a0interested in better understanding this element of our applicant\u2019s communication abilities.<\/span><\/p>\n

Here\u2019s how it will work. After completing the two video questions<\/a>, applicants will receive the written response question. Rotman will provide some relevant information for the candidate, and will then deliver the question. The applicant will need to read and respond to the question within ten minutes (including writing, editing, and submitting). This is all done live (though not via video). There is no word limit.<\/span><\/p>\n

Often prospective MBA candidates build strong relationships, primarily online, with the admissions office. We encourage candidates to follow-up with\u00a0the admissions team members they meet representing Rotman around the world.<\/span><\/p>\n
