If you\u2019re especially interested in careers in entrepreneurship, entertainment, or media, or you\u2019re just interested in learning more about Anderson, <a href=\"https:\/\/media.blubrry.com\/admissions_straight_talk\/p\/www.accepted.com\/hubfs\/IV_with_Jessica_Chung.mp3\">this is the show for you<\/a>!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Jessica Chung provides an overview of Anderson\u2019s FT MBA program<\/strong> (1:59)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s practical and customizable. You can customize the sequence of your first year core classes (finance, marketing, consulting). And there are 13 specializations to choose from, so you can tailor your experience. (A specialization is not required.) <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The benefits of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accepted.com\/mba\/zones\/bschools\/ucla-anderson\">Anderson<\/a>\u2019s location in LA: good weather, outdoor activities, a diverse metropolitan environment with a lot of industries\u2014LA has a lot to offer!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Balancing a broad management education with specialization<\/strong> (5:15)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can take the core courses your first year and electives your second or vice versa, which can be particularly helpful to career-changers wanting to get a foundation in preparation for a critical internship in their new field.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Anderson is well known for its collaborative culture<\/strong>. (8:05) <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chung discusses what that means in real terms: how it goes beyond supportive teamwork to an encompassing attitude where classmates are truly invested in each other\u2019s success. She gives some examples: students helping each other in class, students sharing recruiting info. There\u2019s a friendly atmosphere on campus. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Anderson may be best known for its strengths in entrepreneurship and entertainment\/media related fields, but it has a lot of other strengths.<\/strong>\u00a0(12:41)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Chung highlights the program\u2019s strength in tech (and the development of Silicon Beach). She also highlights Anderson\u2019s career services, which provides great mentoring to students.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Chung mentions a recent exciting project launched by an Anderson grad.<\/strong> (16:53)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Vow To Be Chic, which offers designer bridal party dresses for rental. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Some advice on the application process! \u00a0GRE vs GMAT?<\/strong> (20:09)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The adcom sees them no differently- so take whichever one you\u2019re more comfortable with and will do better on. (They still see more GMAT scores overall.) With regard to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accepted.com\/mba\/gmat\">the GMAT<\/a>\u2019s new IR section\u2014she says they\u2019re waiting for more data, since they\u2019re still receiving applications from people who took the exam before that section was added. So it\u2019s weighed less heavily right now than the verbal and quantitative sections. (Don\u2019t blow it off, though.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Is it true that applicants who plan to go into certain fields (eg finance, consulting) should take the GMAT rather than the GRE?<\/strong> (22:33)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0This doesn\u2019t affect admissions\u2014but it is true that some companies ask for GMAT scores during the recruiting process. So it makes sense for some people to take the GMAT in anticipation of that process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>What happens when you hit \u201csubmit\u201d on your UCLA Anderson application?<\/strong>\u00a0(23:38)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First, every piece of the completed application is read, carefully, by members of the adcom. Then the committee decides whether to extend an invitation to interview. Interviews are held either on campus or by skype (they\u2019re weighted the same). The interviewer will see your resume, but not the full application. In the interview, expect behavioral questions, questions about your experience and goals, why Anderson. After the interview, the committee reviews the interview report. Decisions are posted by the decision date. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>The waitlist process.<\/strong> (28:58)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Being <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.accepted.com\/2014\/02\/27\/waitlisted-what-now\/\">waitlisted<\/a> is an indication that your application is strong. If you\u2019re waitlisted Round 1, you\u2019ll be updated each successive round. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Waitlisted candidates can and should submit updates with significant accomplishments\/new info. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>What gets her excited about an applicant, in a positive way?<\/strong>\u00a0(33:36)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Applicants who make a real effort to put their best foot forward, and who show genuine interest and enthusiasm for Anderson.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>A discussion of the challenge of gender equity in faculty hiring, and how to make the b-school environment inclusive.<\/strong>\u00a0(37:43)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Anderson recently received a $100 million gift from Marion Anderson.<\/strong> (42:37)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A short discussion of some of the exciting areas this money could go towards, including faculty research, student programming, funding\/outreach resources, and building projects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Advice for applicants: be yourself!<\/strong> (44:08)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don\u2019t try to imagine what the adcom wants to read. Think about what you want the adcom to know about you, and think about what Anderson is.
