What factors should you consider when thinking about MBA cost? Which business school is boasting an amazing employment rate and exceptionally high GMAT scores? Do business students need data science skills? Here\u2019s what\u2019s trending at top MBA programs.<\/span><\/p>\n


\n<\/strong><\/strong>Questions about MBA cost<\/b>
\n<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

With the average MBA cost in the tens of thousands of dollars, and with many prospective business school students having to take leave of their jobs to study full-time, it\u2019s no wonder why student debt is such a top of mind issue. The good news is that many business schools offer financial aid packages based on merit or financial need. Additionally, the overall job outlook and employment rate for MBAs is fantastic. Even so, you\u2019ll want to ask target business schools some key questions about covering your MBA costs, such as, \u201cIs this scholarship renewable?\u201d \u2026 \u201cHow much do your graduates earn on average?\u201d Don\u2019t be bashful about asking these questions. They are all reasonable, and a future business leader needs to think practically about finances. (<\/span>U.S. News & World Report<\/span><\/i><\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n

Chicago Booth\u2019s boffo employment rate<\/b><\/h4>\n

Speaking of offsetting MBA cost, graduates of the University of Chicago\u2019s Booth School of Business\u2014one of the finest programs in the nation\u2014seem to have little to worry about. From a purely statistical standpoint, the figures are impressive. Chicago Booth\u2019s newest class of students entered with a 726 on the GMAT (up 687 13 years ago) and its most recent cohort of graduates boast of a 97.4% employment rate within three months of completing their studies. According to Julie Morton, the school\u2019s associate dean of career services and corporate relations, it\u2019s rooted in culture. \u201cThere is a really strong culture here of paying it forward with second year support of first years and alumni support of both first and second years. I think all of those things together have bred an incredibly successful environment.\u201d She also says the school has a \u201chigh bar.\u201d That\u2019s for sure. The demand for data science<\/b><\/p>\n

As more and more businesses adopt a technological focus (even companies that aren\u2019t tech companies, per se), MBAs without data science or Big Data experience are in danger of being at a disadvantage in the job market. Career officers at top MBA programs and data science experts worry that students aren\u2019t gaining the technical acumen to compete. \u201cIn the near future we will all need to develop analytical skills in order to succeed in our job,\u201d said Juan Jose, director of the master in business analytics at <\/span>IE Business School<\/span><\/a>. He added that MBAs without data science skills are \u201cabsolutely\u201d at a disadvantage and that analytical talent is \u201chighly demanded.\u201d A recent survey found that 36% of executives said that they lack specialists in Big Data. Business schools are taking note and are adjusting their curricula accordingly to maintain employment rates across increasingly tech-reliant industries. Teaching relevant skills is a must. Yale SOM\u2019s new digs<\/b><\/p>\n

Top-ranked <\/span>Yale School of Management<\/span><\/a> has a new home\u2014225,000 square feet of state of the art facilities, including a glass-walled library and high tech lecture halls. At their old home, some of the classrooms had their own fireplaces. While that\u2019s quaint, it\u2019d probably seem out of place alongside the more modern appeal of their Jetsons-looking buildings. Business school baby<\/b><\/p>\n

Juggling life\u2019s responsibilities while attending business school is complicated. Meet Halla Koppel, who began her one-year MBA program at <\/span>Oxford university\u2019s Sa\u00efd Business School<\/span><\/a> on September 21st and gave birth to a daughter two days later. Halla understood from the get-go the sacrifices that would come with this, but she\u2019s at peace. \u201cI knew that by having a baby I was giving up the potential of getting the highest grade I could get.
