Starting this fall, MIT Sloan, together with the\u00a0<\/span>MIT Operations Research Center<\/span><\/a>, will be launching its brand new Master of Business Analytics (M.B.An) program. This is a full-time, one-year degree program designed to prepare students for careers in the data science industry. According to an <\/span>MIT Sloan press release<\/span><\/a>, the program was created as a response to the demand for a rigorous opportunity to apply \"the tools of modern data science to solve problems in business and society.\" <\/span><\/p>\n

According to MIT Sloan Dean David Schmittlein, finding skilled practitioners who know how to mine and analyze vast amounts of digital data is a challenge. \"In recognition of this need for innovation and excellence in analytics,\" he says, \"our mission is to build a world-class master\u2019s program in data science that leverages the intellectual resources of MIT, is based on cutting-edge research, and, as a result, attracts the very best applicants.\"<\/span><\/p>\n

With this new program, MIT now offers analytics degrees at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the capstone?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The M.B.An program is divided into three semesters: fall, spring, and a 10-week summer capstone during which students will work in teams onsite at various companies in the US and abroad on real data science problems. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe capstone reflects the school\u2019s commitment to action learning,\u201d says MIT Sloan Professor John Hauser. \u201cIt gives students an opportunity to get out in the field\u2014with a lot of faculty mentoring and support \u2013 and apply the very deep technical knowledge they\u2019ve learned in the classroom to solve a real world challenge. We want them to dive into data: to handle it, to organize it, and to interpret what it means.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Have a strong mathematical, computer science, and statistical background<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Are a recent college graduate looking to pursue a career in the data science industry or a career changer, particularly one with a background in engineering, mathematics, physics, computer programming, or other high-tech fields<\/span><\/p>\n

How do you apply? <\/strong><\/p>\n
