It's time to learn about Joe\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

1.<\/strong> Joe wants to go into strategy consulting\u00a0at an elite management consulting firm.<\/span><\/p>\n

2.<\/strong> He's considering applying to the following schools: <\/span>HBS<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Stanford<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Kellogg<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Tuck<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Darden<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Chicago<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Wharton<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>MIT<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Columbia<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Haas<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>NYU Stern<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0and <\/span>Ross<\/span><\/a> \u2013 all great for consulting in their own ways, and many especially welcoming to qualified applicants from the armed services.<\/span><\/p>\n

3. Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0GMAT<\/strong>:<\/strong> 740<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0GPA:<\/strong> 3.7 from Princeton, class of 2012; he was in the ROTC<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0Transcript:<\/strong> Majored in econ<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Work\/Military experience:<\/strong> Interned for boutique consulting firm in college; after college accepted a post-ROTC Army officer commission and served for 5 years at various posts in the Middle East and Asia<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Extracurricular activities:<\/strong> ROTC precluded doing a lot of other activities; he did some intramural lacrosse and volunteered with the school theater to build sets and do lighting<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 B-school timeline:<\/strong> Wants to apply in 2016, matriculate in 2017, and graduate as the class of 2019<\/span><\/p>\n

Where should Joe apply?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Joe has a highly competitive profile with his strong academic background and impressive, high-impact leadership<\/a>\u00a0from the military service. He will apply to HBS, Stanford, Wharton, Kellogg, and Tuck for Round 1, as they are all excellent consulting schools and attract the most competitive and qualified applicants \u2013 something he appreciates and would like to duplicate after Princeton. <\/span><\/p>\n

He will apply to Darden, Haas, and Ross R2 if\u00a0<\/span>not accepted<\/span>\u00a0anywhere R1. They are schools with distinctive personalities\/cultures and passionate students, which attracts him, along with the requisite consulting pipelines. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
