He studied in Germany and France and started working for CEMS in 2002, becoming the Executive Director in 2012. Welcome!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>What is CEMS?<\/strong>\u00a0[1:45]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s a joint program \u2013 a partnership among 30 leading b-schools. It\u2019s provides a pre-experience master\u2019s program (the students are straight out of undergrad). And students study at two of 30 campuses on 5 continents. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Currently there\u2019s no US partner. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>MIM program overview<\/strong>\u00a0[3:13]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students enroll at one of the 30 partner campuses. They do one term at their home campus, one term abroad, and one internship term (also usually abroad). There\u2019s a very strong international focus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And at the end, students earn two degrees: a master\u2019s degree from their home campus and the CEMS Masters in International Management.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Most of the master\u2019s programs are 1-2 years. If a student is in a 2-year master\u2019s program, they can add the CEMS program in the second year of the 2-year program.<\/strong>\u00a0[4:38]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>If a student is doing a second degree, does it have to be related to business?<\/strong>\u00a0[5:30]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yes. We consider the CEMS MIM an advanced degree, and we go deep. But their undergrad degree can be in a different field. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>What distinguishes the MIM from an MBA?<\/strong>\u00a0[7:15]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Timing. While <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accepted.com\/mba\">the MBA<\/a> generally requires a few years of work experience, MIM students are young \u2013 generally straight out of undergrad.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>What distinguishes the CEMS MIM from b-school linked Masters in Management?<\/strong>\u00a0[8:25]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The international flavor. 100 institutions contribute to shaping the program \u2013 so there are many opportunities for your studies. You get to be exposed to students from 30 campuses and 70 nationalities. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The world is our home, and that\u2019s reflected in our program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>What are the 100 institutions?<\/strong>\u00a0[10:00]\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are 65 companies, 5 NGOs, and 30 schools. The companies participate in every aspect of the program: selecting students, mentoring, providing guest speakers, etc. And ultimately, hiring.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>How does the internship term work? Is it in a third location?<\/strong>\u00a0[11:15]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People do diverse things all over the world (including developing countries and countries where the program doesn\u2019t have partner campuses, like the US). The internship gives them a chance to learn something practical about the working world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>What are you looking for in a student?<\/strong>\u00a0[12:45]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bright people with good academic records. We also want an interest and appetite for the international, as well as people with maturity, clear ethics, and a strong moral compass. People who have the capability of <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.accepted.com\/2014\/05\/14\/writing-about-overcoming-obstacles-in-your-application-essays\/\">reflecting on challenges<\/a>, and who have the desire to perform and compete.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>The application process<\/strong>\u00a0[14:10]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The application itself is carried out by member schools.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After applying, candidates are selected to an interview\/assessment center. The interview could include a group discussion or team situation, or you could be asked to give a presentation. There\u2019s also an interview with a school representative and a company representative.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Does the application vary by school (among the 30 campuses)?<\/strong>\u00a0[16:10]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The application might vary \u2013 the school might have specific requirements you also must meet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some schools have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accepted.com\/grad\/personal-statement\">essays<\/a>. They all want to see you\u2019ve done well in your studies and that you\u2019ve also gained international exposure. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>The GMAT\/GRE?<\/strong>\u00a0[17:20]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accepted.com\/mba\/gmat\">GMAT<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accepted.com\/grad\/gre-prep-tips\">GRE<\/a> are OK. But some schools\/countries don\u2019t allow the tests at all, so it depends on the specific application.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>What type of jobs do people get after earning the MIM?<\/strong>\u00a0[17:50]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Given the international focus of the degree, many people are recruited by multinational companies. Recently, a lot of tech companies have been hiring our grads. And <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.accepted.com\/2014\/05\/29\/how-to-become-a-management-consultant\/\">consulting<\/a> is always a big field. Increasingly, grads want to join (or start) start-ups.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Some recent professional destinations<\/strong>\u00a0[18:40]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Google, L\u2019Oreal, Deloitte, McKinsey. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Is the MIM a terminal degree?<\/strong>\u00a0[19:00]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most of all, it\u2019s a career accelerator. We\u2019re doing research to track people\u2019s next steps, and while a few people may later return for an MBA, not many do. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Advice for <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.accepted.com\/2015\/11\/29\/studying-abroad-trend-increases\/\">US students<\/a> considering the CEMS program<\/strong>\u00a0[21:30]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consider your needs: is speed important? Consider a 1-year program. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consider your interests: marketing? Finance? Look at campuses with strengths in your areas of interest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And consider the locations that are most attractive to you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, consider price. Some degrees are very inexpensive (or free), by law.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Advice to prepare for the application<\/strong>\u00a0[24:00]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Travel! We want people with international experience.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brush up on your languages. You need to have strong language knowledge\/speaking ability.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Language requirements?\u00a0<\/strong>[24:50]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You need proficiency in at least two languages (one must be English) when you come into the program, and then work on learning basic knowledge of a third while you\u2019re in the program. The third is more of a cultural immersion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Speaking another language is also thinking in another language: it\u2019s about culture.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What\u2019s coming up in the US?\u00a0<\/b>[25:45]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More educational innovation. Specialized master\u2019s programs are great for schools and students. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The age of the wise man delivering knowledge is gone, and that\u2019s a good thing!
