The questions below reflect this value; they draw out applicants\u2019 individuality, motivations, and ability to collaborate, while also addressing <a href=\"https:\/\/reports.accepted.com\/mba\/why-mba-guide\">the practical matters of goals<\/a> and why you are seeking an MBA at McCombs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mccombs.utexas.edu\/MBA\/Full-Time\/Admissions\/Essays\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Essays<\/b><\/a><b>:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Essay 1.<\/strong><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The University of Texas at Austin values unique perspectives and cultivates a collaborative environment of distinct individual contributions. It is the first day of orientation. You are meeting your study group, comprised of five of your classmates from various backgrounds. Please introduce yourself to your new team, highlighting what drives you in your personal and professional life.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Select only\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">one<\/span><\/i><\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">communication method that you would like to use for your response.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2022 Write an essay\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(250 words maximum)<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2022 Share a video introduction\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(one minute)<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First, choose from the two options \u2013 for the purpose of self-introduction, which medium is the most natural for you? That is the one you should use \u2013both are equally good. Next <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">decision<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: out of the universe that is you, what to say? I suggest a combination of distinctive professional and non-work points to reflect well-roundedness \u2013 points that show the adcom what you\u2019ll \u201cbring to the table.\u201d Another effective approach is to focus on one key event or experience, if that one element bridges your work and non-work spheres. Both communication options require brevity, so focus on the essential.<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>Essay 2.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Based on your post-MBA goals and what drives you in your personal and professional life, why is the Texas MBA the ideal program for you and how do you plan to engage in our community?<\/span><b>\u00a0<\/b><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(500 words max) <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #0000ff;\">Interestingly, this question integrates goals and motivation. I suggest starting the essay with your goals \u2013 straightforwardly discussion short and long term goals, with the short term goals more in-depth and detailed. Next, discuss how these goals, along with some <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.accepted.com\/2015\/11\/03\/im-smart-really-i-am-proving-character-traits-in-your-essays\/\">personal drivers or characteristics<\/a>, make the Texas MBA the right program for you. Be specific and thoughtful about how the program aligns with your needs, don\u2019t just reword website copy. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #0000ff;\">Finally, identify ways you will participate in the McCombs community \u2013 discuss a few key, specific clubs, programs, or other resources meaningfully including why they\u2019re of interest, what you hope to gain from them, and what impact you can have. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Optional Essay.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Please provide any additional information you believe is important and\/or address any areas of concern that will be beneficial to the Admissions Committee in considering your application (e.g. unexplained gaps in work experience, choice of recommenders, academic performance, or extenuating personal circumstances). <em>(250 words max)\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I encourage you to write the\u00a0<\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.accepted.com\/2013\/12\/18\/when-the-mba-optional-essay-is-no-longer-optional\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">optional essay<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Just make sure you are submitting an informative optional essay that complements the required essays and adds to the reader\u2019s knowledge of you and your qualifications. If you do not have \u201can area of concern to address,\u201d this optional would be a great place to explore a non-professional interest or commitment of yours not addressed in your application.
