Here I\u2019ll look at the third component: <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Innovative Leadership Learning<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the <a href=\"https:\/\/reports.accepted.com\/mba\/wharton\">Wharton<\/a> website, the short paragraph introducing this component contains the keys to unlocking its real meaning and import. Let\u2019s look at those keys \u2013 literally, the key words and phrases. They reveal the adcom\u2019s core interests and values.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>\u2022 \u201cYou\u2019ll find your leadership style\u2026\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Leadership isn\u2019t the pivotal word here, but rather <b>find<\/b>, which is, unsurprisingly, the verb, the action word. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of course <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MBAs are about leadership. But \u201cfind\u201d indicates that the adcom wants people who are \u201cin process\u201d \u2013 seeking, growing, and changing in response to what they learn.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>\u2022 \u201c\u2026by participating in unmatched <\/b><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.accepted.com\/mba\/entrepreneurship\">entrepreneurship<\/a> <\/b><b>and leadership activities.\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What\u2019s the pivotal word here? Yeah, <\/span><b>participating<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It means active involvement. The little word <\/span><b>by <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is important too, because it indicates that this participation is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the way through which<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> you grow, change (including finding your leadership style).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>\u2022 \u201cYou\u2019ll take risks, try new roles\u2026\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wharton adcom equates <\/span><b>risk-taking <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with action; putting yourself out there; opening up not just intellectually but personally. Wharton\u2019s leadership and entrepreneurship (and other) resources offer avenues for risk-takers to try new roles. And note the word <\/span><b>try<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: you don\u2019t have to follow a straight, smooth path to a goal; the adcom recognizes the growth value in varied experiences, which you internalize and synthesize along the way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><b>\u2022 \u201c\u2026inspire others, and work with peers to shape your experience.\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a word, collaboration. In Wharton\u2019s culture, it\u2019s the magic through which the alchemy of growth happens. The verbs <\/span><b>inspire<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>shape<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> imply deep experience and profound, transforming outcomes. Innovative Leadership Learning clearly is more than \u201cgaining skills\u201d and \u201cbuilding networks\u201d\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s how you can portray the \u201cInnovative Leadership Learning\u201d component to demonstrate fit with Wharton in your application:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2022 Throughout <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.accepted.com\/2016\/06\/17\/wharton-2016-17-mba-essay-tips-deadlines\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">your essay(s)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, weave in anecdotes and examples that show you participating, taking risks through collaboration, inspiring others in the process \u2013 and growing as a leader as a result. Given the tight word counts, you can even do this within 1-2 sentences, e.g., \u201cWhen I [did some activity\/initiative], it challenged me to [think differently in some way; be specific], which proved valuable when I subsequently [led in a new capacity].<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2022 The Wharton interview process is a natural extension of this component \u2013 develop a strategy for portraying these qualities in a way that is natural to you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2022 In <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/reports.accepted.com\/resume_guide\">your resume<\/a> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and application form, mention activities where you took initiative and\/or drew others in and\/or \u201cstretched\u201d beyond your comfort zone.
