Alumnus Lorenzo Fertitta (MBA \u201993) and his brother Frank J. Fertitta III have given New York University\u2019s Stern School of Business<\/a> a $15 million endowment gift to create a new program exclusively for U.S. military veteran and active duty students who will be entering the school\u2019s full-time MBA program next year. The school predicts that approximately 20 entering full-time MBA military students who are accepted into the Fertitta Veterans Program will receive scholarship assistance that reduces their tuition to $30,000 per year. Students qualifying for veteran benefits, including Yellow Ribbon funding, will continue to be entitled to receive those benefits.<\/p>\n

The Fertitta Veterans Program is thought to be the only program of its kind in the U.S. Besides providing scholarship money, the program will also offer academic and professional support specially made for veterans to assist the transition from the military to business school and eventually the business world<\/a>. The program will start in summer 2017 for students in the full-time MBA class of 2019. This specially designed summer session will include:<\/p>\n

\u2022 An early start on some of the coursework
\n\u2022 Career programming including access to corporations and alumni
\n\u2022 Meetings with veteran alumni mentors
\n\u2022 Social activities<\/p>\n

At the end of the summer session, veterans will be completely assimilated in the full-time MBA program, beginning with Stern\u2019s week-long MBA orientation known as LAUNCH.<\/p>\n

Stern already has a strong support system for its military students through scholarships and community. Stern\u2019s Military Veterans Club provides an active and tight-knit community of MBA student support. The class that began in fall 2016 included the highest number of military students in its full-time MBA program ever.<\/p>\n

The Fertitta family supports various local and military charities personally and through their ownership of Station Casinos and their previous ownership of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Military-based charities supported by the Fertitta family include:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Veterans Village, housing and services for homeless veterans
\n\u2022 Fisher House Foundation
\n\u2022 Nevada Military Support Alliance
\n\u2022 Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund
\n\u2022 Wounded Warriors Project<\/p>\n
