Whether\u00a0you're applying to b-school, law school, med school, grad school, or college, this checklist will be the same. Don't hit that \"submit\" button until\u00a0you've completed the following 5 steps:<\/p>\n

1. \u00a0You\u2019ve made sure that\u00a0your\u00a0application\u00a0presents\u00a0a\u00a0holistic, multi-dimensional\u00a0picture\u00a0of\u00a0you.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Each section of\u00a0your\u00a0application\u00a0should not just present\u00a0you\u00a0as a strong candidate<\/a> on its own, but should complement the other application\u00a0components as well. When the admissions readers have finished reading\u00a0your\u00a0entire\u00a0application, they should have a clear\u00a0picture\u00a0of who\u00a0you\u00a0are as a well-rounded and unique individual.<\/p>\n

2. You\u2019ve demonstrated fit with the program.<\/strong><\/p>\n

To demonstrate that tight fit that adcoms are seeking<\/a>,\u00a0you'll need to have done some serious thinking about who\u00a0you\u00a0are and about how that person is compatible with the school's mission, ideals, and culture.<\/p>\n

3. You\u00a0have selected the best recommenders.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The best recommenders are those people who really know\u00a0you well and who will be able to draw from their unique experiences with\u00a0you\u00a0in composing their LOR. If\u00a0your\u00a0recommender doesn\u2019t know\u00a0you\u00a0well<\/a>, then his or her assessment of\u00a0you\u00a0may end up sounding generic and superficial. Plus, it may not be\u00a0accurate.<\/p>\n

4. Proofread, edit, and then proof some more!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Read\u00a0your\u00a0essay, as well as all other\u00a0application\u00a0components, aloud to make sure that\u00a0you\u00a0hear mistakes that\u00a0your\u00a0eyes may have glossed over.\u00a0You\u00a0may also want to recruit a friend, colleague or family member, or hire an admissions consultant, to help\u00a0you\u00a0edit\u00a0your\u00a0essays to perfection<\/a>.<\/p>\n

5. You\u2019ve given yourself some time.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Don't submit\u00a0your\u00a0app at the last minute. Rushing\u00a0your application\u00a0will create more room for error, the schools' servers may be overloaded just before the buzzer, and\u00a0you\u00a0may lose your\u00a0chance to apply on time if\u00a0you\u00a0wait until the last minute.<\/p>\n
