Make them count.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>2. \u00a0Don\u2019t repeat what\u2019s on your resume. <\/strong>You can use the same accomplishments if you really have to, but explain them in a different way whenever possible. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>3. \u00a0Don\u2019t repeat what\u2019s said on your essays either.<\/strong> Don\u2019t waste precious \u2013 and limited -- space in the boxes to say what you already said somewhere else. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>4. \u00a0Your company description shouldn\u2019t be a copy and paste from the company\u2019s website. <\/strong>Describe, clearly and succinctly, what the company does without repeating word for word. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>5. \u00a0Your role and responsibilities shouldn't be a summarized job description. <\/strong>Make it more interesting, highlighting when possible any supervisory or managerial role you have. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>6. \u00a0A challenge is a problem you faced and handled. \u00a0<\/strong>Don\u2019t just talk about the problem, rather, focus on how you solved it and the result that came from your solution. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>7. \u00a0For extra-curricular activities, don\u2019t just limit yourself to listing your title <\/strong>or even a description of your role. Describe your most impressive contributions. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>8. \u00a0Be clear and succinct.<\/strong> B-schools set a word or character limit for a reason. <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.accepted.com\/stay-within-essay-word-limits-reducing-verbal-verbosity\/\">Use the minimum number of words<\/a> you can possibly use. For example, instead of saying \"Spearheaded a team of four members\" you can say \"Led a 4-member team\"; right there you\u2019ve reduced your character count from 34 to 19 without changing your message.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>9. \u00a0On the other hand, concise doesn\u2019t mean ungrammatical.<\/strong> When you strive to make your message fit in the box, don\u2019t write in \"Twitter- or text- style.\"\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this attention-deficient era, business schools look at application boxes to get the answers to basic but very important questions. Answer each one to the best of your ability because each and every box counts. Be succinct, write clearly, and avoid verbosity.
