Here, we dive into the details of The University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.

The What

Rotman (or, more properly, The University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management) is Canada’s largest, most diverse and most recognized MBA program, and the one most likely to turn heads outside Canada’s borders. If you’re looking for name recognition and reputation in Canada, Rotman’s your best bet. Rotman graduates have great prospects in Finance and Consulting, with over 50% of alumni finding work in these two industries. Tech and Consumer Goods are also well represented, and companies worldwide draw from the school’s pool of graduates.

Rotman’s MBA is an accelerated 16 months (plus a four month internship), quicker than many global MBAs, which can make it an attractive option for those seeking to quickly rejoin the workforce. The MBA program has a reputation for research, which can be seen in the focus on “labs” – most notably the Creative Destruction Lab. This is one of the world’s fastest-growing venture projects, having invested $1B+ since 2012.

For those looking for a more “woke” MBA program, there are also opportunities like “Behavioral Economics in Action at Rotman” ( BEAR) which investigates implicit bias to help students design better products, and “Gender and the Economy” (GATE) which studies inequality in business. This wider perspective reflects Rotman’s status as a public institution, which is rare in the top echelon of U.S. MBA programs.

The Who

Rotman grads are 51% international and 49% Canadian. That’s not
the whole story, however, because the “Canadians” category includes a diverse swath
of naturalized citizens. When these students are factored in, more than 60% of
Rotman students were born outside of Canada, ensuring an even wider range of
experiences.

Perhaps surprisingly, only 27% of students come from a Finance
or Commerce background, compared to 32% from Engineering and Applied Sciences.
This makes Rotman an attractive option for those seeking to switch careers. We
weren’t kidding when we said the school was diverse!

Rotman has particularly strong ties with India, the country that
contributes to the most international students to the school’s intake (China
comes in second). Finally, given the opportunities that exist to land a work
permit and permanent residency after graduation, it helps if your goals fit with
the major industries in Toronto.

Bottom Line

Rotman is currently the top-ranked MBA program in Canada, and its prestige, classroom offerings, and job placement programs make the Canadian job market your oyster. It’s an obvious choice for those who wish to work in Canada, particularly in Consulting and Finance—all the big names recruit here for their Canadian operations. You’ll also have access to great and ever-growing opportunities internationally, particularly with it’s expanding networks in India and China. Its location in Toronto, Canada’s biggest and most diverse city, offers amazing culture, proximity to the U.S., and access to plenty of multinational employers, which means strong offers and access to the North American market, post-graduation.

Stay tuned as we dive into more of Canada’s top programs in Admissionado’s Canadian MBA Crash Course.

===

***NEW Admissionado Products & Services!***Now, read up and get smart:

Essay Analysis Book (2018-19)

50 Essays That Worked (Latest Edition)

Resume Guide

LOR Guide

European Crash Course

That’ll get you started. Still have questions?
