Famous for its<a href=\"https:\/\/www.anderson.ucla.edu\/about\/our-character\"> 3 pillars<\/a> (share success,\nthink fearlessly, and drive change), Anderson looks for applicants who will\ndeliver value to the community, as well as to the classroom. Anderson\u2019s Essay\nprompts play a crucial role in validating your candidacy.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.anderson.ucla.edu\/degrees\/full-time-mba\/admissions\/requirements#essay\"> From Anderson website<\/a>, <em>\u201cPlease note that your essays are the primary way for you to share\nyour perspectives and plans with the Admissions Committee. The best essays are\nintrospective, genuine and succinct in directly answering our questions and\nresponding to our topics.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.anderson.ucla.edu\/degrees\/full-time-mba\/admissions\/requirements#essay\">Essays :<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The UCLA Anderson\nSchool of Management has changed essay #2 for the 2019-20 application season\nwhile the first essay, the career goals essay, remains unchanged from last\nyear. First-time applicants must respond to the short answer questions (2) and essay\n# 2. They can also submit a brief 250-words optional essay, but no preference\nis given to candidates who submit an optional essay. The re-applicants are\nrequired to address a separate question detailing improvement in their\ncandidacies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\nis MER\u2019s analysis of Anderson\u2019s essays:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Short Answer\nQuestions:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Essay a)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tel<strong>l us about\nyour MBA goals AND why you are applying to UCLA Anderson now:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Describe your short\nterm and long-term goals (150 words maximum)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why is UCLA\nAnderson a good school for you? (150 words maximum)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a\nstraightforward goals essay question. Applicants are asked about their\nimmediate post MBA goals and long-term goals and how Anderson MBA will bring\nthem closer to their goals. Anderson has reduced the word limit from 500 to 300\nwords this year. Keeping<a href=\"https:\/\/www.anderson.ucla.edu\/about\"> Anderson\u2019s motto<\/a> in mind, \u201c <em>We share success, We\nthink fearlessly, We drive change \u201d<\/em>, familiarize yourself with values\ncherished by Anderson and showcase how these very values have shaped your\ncareer till now and will help you reach your goals in future. While there may\nbe evidence of these qualities throughout your application, this essay question\nis an excellent opportunity to communicate how you fit into the Anderson\ncommunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You begin this essay\nwith a statement about your post MBA career objectives. Explain what you plan\nto do after your MBA. Be as specific as you can about your goals and specify\nthe industry, your role, and the companies that interest you. Discuss your\nshort term and long -term goals. To demonstrate how your professional\nexperiences till now align with these goals, provide a brief career history\nfocusing on your career progression and the skills and knowledge you acquired\nat each job position. Given the stringent word limit (150 words), you will have\nspace to write only 1-2 sentences about your professional experience&nbsp; that is directly related to&nbsp; your career objectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To answer the second\npart of the question, explain how an MBA from Anderson will bridge the gap\nbetween your current skills set and your post-MBA goals .All schools expect you\nto not only to have a clear sense of your goals but also its connection to\ntheir offerings. So you should demonstrate your thorough knowledge of the school\u2019s\ncurriculum, faculty, special programs, and extracurricular activities and\nexplain how you will use them to achieve your professional and personal goals.\nAlso, please mention how your interactions with UCLA\u2019s alumni and students have\noffered you valuable insights into the school's culture and offerings. Describe\nwhy you believe that an MBA from Anderson is the next logical step to fill the\ngaps in your career and bring you closer to the fulfilment of your goals? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If space permits, you\nmay wrap up your essay by adding a sentence about how you plan to contribute to\nthe Anderson community by immersing in its culture of sharing success, thinking\nfearlessly, and driving positive change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Essay b)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>At Anderson, we\nbelieve our students are engaged, courageous, humble, and open.\nDescribe a time when you demonstrated one of these traits in your personal\nlife. (250 words max)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a new\nquestion for 2019-20 applicants. The response to this essay prompt will reveal\nyour behavioral side. To brainstorm ideas\/ stories for this essay, you can make\na list of 4-5 experiences, personal or professional, reflect on your actions in\neach of those events\/ experiences to figure out the challenges&nbsp; you faced demonstrating one or more of the\nqualities mentioned&nbsp; in the essay prompt.\nIt could be a challenge faced with courage while doing community service or accepting\nfailure with humility. Then choose an experience where one of the traits listed\nin the essay prompt comes to the fore. The experience\/story chosen by you can\nillustrate your involvement in any field like sports, community service or\nparticipation in clubs. It should be a captivating story in sync with\nAnderson\u2019s core values. For instance, you could talk about the challenge faced\nas a president of a community service club where you were required to raise\nfunds for the flood victims. You may highlight the process of \u2018engaging\u2019\nyourself with the club members, meeting the target and the lessons learned in\nthe process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lastly, for\norganizing your ideas, as always, we suggest following the STAR method (Situation,\nTask, Action, Result). To meet the stringent word limit ,make sure to <a href=\"https:\/\/myessayreview.com\/essay-tips\/business-school-application-essays-less-is-more\/\">make every word count.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Essay c)&nbsp; (same\nfor both new applicants and applicants) <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Optional: Are there\nany extenuating circumstances in your profile about which the Admissions\nCommittee should be aware. (250 words maximum)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As\ndirected in the essay prompt, you should use this essay to address a weakness\nin your profile (low GPA or GMAT,\nchoice of the recommender, employment gap, academic gap, academic probation,\nlack of growth at work, etc.) Explain your situation clearly and concisely\nwithout making excuses. You may not use this essay to provide additional\ninformation. Please note that the admission committee asks you to submit this\nessay only if you need to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your response\nshould be brief without making any excuses. Your weakness may also bring out a\npositive aspect of your personality. For example, if you are discussing your\nemployment gap, you may explain that you did something productive during that\nperiod, such as traveling, volunteering or handling a family medical emergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Re-Applicant Essay<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Re-applicants are those who submitted a completed MBA application within the previous two application years. If you <g class=\"gr_ gr_4 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar only-ins replaceWithoutSep\" id=\"4\" data-gr-id=\"4\">applied<\/g> three years or more prior, then please answer the \u201cNew Applicant\u201d questions<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Please describe your career progress\nsince you last applied and ways in which you have enhanced your candidacy.\nInclude information on short-term and long-term career goals, as well as your\ncontinued interest in UCLA Anderson. (500 words maximum)<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a\nstraightforward <a href=\"https:\/\/myessayreview.com\/mba-topics\/helpful-tips-for-repplicants\/\">re-applicant essay<\/a>. Through this question, the Ad Com would like to know that your need\nfor the UCLA Anderson MBA is as strong as it was last time. Hence you should\ndemonstrate your continued interest in UCLA by explaining how you have enhanced\nyour application since you applied last time.&nbsp; You may answer this by\nfocusing on the areas you have improved upon since you applied last. Whether\nyou have taken extra classes, boosted your GMAT score, received a promotion,\nled a new and exciting project, increased your community involvement, or taken\non a personal challenge, the key here is to demonstrate that you are now a\nbetter and a stronger candidate since your last application. Your conscious\nefforts to strengthen your profile and to work on your weak areas will prove\nhow determined you are about your UCLA MBA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The school also\nasks re-applicants to comment on ways they have refined their career goals and\nto highlight the additional research they have done into the UCLA MBA program\nover the past year. You may mention any meetings you have had with alumni\/\nprofessors\/ad com or any information session you have attended.
