Oxford<\/em><\/a> has pared back its essays this year to one short question. Presumably the adcom can glean your goals and relevant background and experience from the application, <\/em>resume<\/em><\/a>, recommendations, etc. This one essay question shows that they also want a glimpse of you beyond these basics. It seems like a simple question \u2013 but there is a little twist in it that amplifies its importance in the application and its connection between you and the admissions readers.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oxford MBA 2019-20 MBA application essay<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Tell us something that is not covered in your application which you would like the Admissions Committee to know about you. (Maximum 250 words)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the \u201csomething\u201d will be the topic of the essay, the real heart of this essay question lies in the phrase \u201cwhich you would like the Admissions Committee to know.\u201d It almost posits a dialogue between you and the adcom; it sets up a dynamic more than most MBA essay questions do. It\u2019s personal; they\u2019re talking to YOU. Reading the spirit as well as the literal meaning of these words, you can infer that the adcom is looking for a story or a message that gets to the essence of <\/em>who you are<\/em><\/a> in some way.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Therefore, don\u2019t try to find the most dramatic or exotic topic possible; this essay doesn\u2019t have to shout. Rather, it should incisively reveal a fresh dimension of you \u2013 one that is relevant to the application and that will add to the Oxford Said community.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

That leaves a lot of room for topic choice. I suggest committing to one topic and discussing it in as much depth as is possible in 250 words. Make this single essay vivid and memorable by basing it on your actual experience, which gives the adcom not just information about you but also your unique perspective on an aspect of your life.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for topic, be strategic in selecting one that is relevant, will engage the Oxford adcom, and <\/em>enhances your fit<\/em><\/a> for Oxford Said.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
