We have seen that, initially, all applicants, even those with stellar\nprofiles, have no idea how to present themselves to the admission committee.\nHowever, with proper planning, brainstorming, and guidance that sometimes takes\nseveral months, together, we have been able to create applications that have\nearned them offers from their dream schools.&nbsp;\nMER (myEssayReview), is publishing case-studies of some of our recent successful candidates to top programs. Here is our\nfirst case study in the series. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Name<\/strong>: Puja (not her real name)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Age<\/strong>: 26 years<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Country<\/strong>: India<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Academic<\/strong>:\n<em>Associate Chartered Accountant<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Institute<\/strong>:\nInstitute of Chartered Accountants of India <em>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Industry<\/strong>: Financial\nAdvisory (Fraud\nand dispute advisory)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>GMAT<\/strong>: 750 (Q49\nV42) <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Work Experience<\/strong>:&nbsp; Puja had 2.5 years of work\nexperience. She worked at an MNC as part of\nthe dispute and investigation advisory team, responsible for executing\nfinancial investigations. She progressed quickly in her\nshort career and was working as an assistant manager at the time of application.\nShe had done three years of clerkship as part of her education as a chartered\naccountant. She also had a few months of international experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Extra-Curricular\nActivities<\/strong>:&nbsp; She had\nvolunteered for \u2018Teach for India\u2019 fellows for a few months and was also briefly\ninvolved with two other NGOs. Her non -work interests include standup comedy,\nswimming, preparing her organization's weekly newsletter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Career\nGoal<\/strong>: Puja aspired to head the finance function of an\norganization in retail\/consumer products based in Asia, where she could\ncontribute to strategic growth and profitability. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MER Approach:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To gain an in-depth understanding of her\nprofile, we first had her fill out a questionnaire of 20 questions about her\nbackground, accomplishments, and interests. Having brainstormed all her personal\nand professional stories, we started working together on her application to\nshowcase her candidacy for Tuck. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some of the key highlights of\nour work together: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Puja\u2019s early background of frequently moving to different cities\nbecause of her father\u2019s transferable job had taught her to quickly adapt to new\nsituations that later helped her work well with small teams across varied organizations.\nHer adaptability aligned with the collaborative and close-knit community of Tuck,\nand her ability to work well with small groups made her a good fit for the\nsmall teams of 4-5 students from diverse backgrounds.<\/li><li>We accentuated her ability to work independently and as a team\nleader in line with individual and team-based learning at Tuck that would hone her\nskills and augment her growth as a leader.<\/li><li>Puja\u2019s involvement in voluntary work and her passion for women\u2019s\nissues aligned with Tuck\u2019s values. She arranged an awareness drive for HPV\nvaccination to reduce the chances of contracting cervical cancer. We helped her\ncommunicate her ability and desire to contribute to Tuck through clubs,\nespecially \u2018Business in Women Club.\u2019<\/li><li>We helped her tie her thorough knowledge of accounting and\nfinance and her post-MBA goal of entering I- banking to Tuck\u2019s curriculum and\nother resources, primarily Finance Club.<\/li><li>We guided her in selecting relevant content\/stories in the essay\nand LORs to demonstrate her \u2018fit\u2019 with Tuck\u2019s admission criteria ( <em>nice,\naware, and accomplished<\/em>).<\/li><li>We also advised her to attend admission events and connect with\ncurrent students and alumni to gain additional insights into the program and\nits culture, and share those insights in the essays. &nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Outcome:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Puja was accepted at Tuck school of\nbusiness at Dartmouth, one of her top choices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MER\u2019s views:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Puja came across as an exceptionally\nhardworking, decisive, and diligent applicant. She had the skillset, commitment,\nfocus, and temperament to be a leader. From the beginning, she was articulate\nabout her need for management education and her post-MBA goals. She was quick\nin editing and reverting with revised drafts.
