Yesterday the Yale School of Management community was buzzing with news that Yale University has received a $50 million donation to help finish the new SOM campus. The school will recognize Yale College alumnus Edward P. (Ned) Evans (Class of \u201964), the former Chair and CEO of publishing house Macmillan, for his gift by naming the new building Edward P. Evans Hall.<\/p>\n
The new building, which is scheduled for completion in 2013, sits on a 4.25 acre campus for the new and improved School of Management. It will feature the full complement of state-of-the-art classrooms, comfortable meeting spaces for students, and \u201cgreen\u201d building technology. The architects, Foster + Partners, have taken special care to design the new building to have a distinctive 21st-Century look that will fit in well with the rest of Yale University\u2019s distinguished architecture.<\/p>\n
This marks the second large gift to Yale this year. In January, Lei Zhang, Yale MBA \u201902, pledged $8,888,888 to support the construction of the new campus. In recognition of this gift, Yale will name an auditorium after Zhang. (The 8\u2032s are a nod to the fact that 8 is considered a lucky number in his home country, China.) If this keeps up, Yale will have a very nice problem to have: It might start running out of things to name after donors.<\/p>\n
