At the beginning of 2011, a friend of mine landed a position at a major multi-national as their Global Social Engagement Lead<\/em>. Her previous title at another major industry player was Social Media Associate Manager<\/em>. This is the new normal, folks. Social media and social networking has transformed the marketing landscape, and it\u2019s only getting more influential.<\/p>\n

In a US News <\/em>article written last week (Social Media Skills a Must for MBAs, Survey Says,<\/a> September 30, 2011), the author explores the apparent role of social media in MBA education, from admissions\/applicant implications to curricula<\/a>, via a new online survey compiled by The MBA Tour<\/a>. Turns out, \u201c85 percent of potential students worldwide say they use social media sites to research their top school choices.\u201d*<\/a><\/p>\n

Looking back, I can safely say that none<\/em> of the research I did when I was planning my MBA was done on Facebook<\/a>,Twitter<\/a>, LinkedIn<\/a>, YouTube<\/a>, or the like. But, what I did 5 years ago is thoroughly irrelevant. Just as businesses are doing, schools need to get there social media identity under control and up to par (63% of respondents felt their potential schools\u2019 use of social media tools is lacking).<\/p>\n
