Thanks Jennifer

It does make sense to promote someone with a thorough technical background into these roles and MBA surely doesn't focus on technology. Perhaps an MS in Technology would help.

I thought that if one aims at social entrepreneurship via e-comm, these c levels jobs may provide the relevant leadership experience to lead his/her start up.

What could be an appropriate career path for someone who wishes to start up an e-comm business? I doubt whether all the graduates with similar aims straightaway open their own business. If they don't, what do they do in the meantime?

Many thanks

Joining an established firm in a general management role, joining a general management rotational program for an established company, joining a startup perhaps in product management, joining management or strategy consulting: all of these roles prepare fresh MBA grads for a future entrepreneurial career because grads gain experience and insight into what works and doesn't in other companies before risking everything they have on their own.

Jennifer

I have browsed a few leadership development and rotational functional leadership programs in a couple of firms and could understand how such programs bridge the gap.

Many Thanks

What about the role of Enterprise Architect ?

I am involved in L&D of an major Indian IT Company. Enterprise Architect is purely a technical job and do not demand MBA. In fact MBA doesn't help much for this role, for there is no MBA specific to a particular IT domain (Finance, Insurance , etc..).

An enterprise architect works parallel to strategic/tactical (not operational) level project managers, and is responsible for the solution outlay, not the definition or execution part. If you aspire to be Enterprise Architect, you need to have solid technical background with exposure to multiple IT technologies and willingness to keep yourself updated to latest breakthroughs and processes in the IT industry.

Isnt't EA technology agnostic ? IMHO It gives equal weight age to business/data/IS architecture. Infact business architecture is the driver to kick start subsequent processes

I do not deny that. All I said is - currently we do not have specialised MBA to cater to EA role. EA is specific to a domain, you cannot be an EA in different industry sectors. You can always do MBA, but it would not help much. Since this is your aspirational role, I would suggest you to speak to someone in the same profession and find out what education is relevant. You cannot leave your future to uncertainty.

My opinions are just guidelines, not suggestions. The decision is finally yours, we can provide inputs though.

With reference to the OP's question , I am a bit surprised because the maximum people who opt for MBA ( atleast in India,PGPX) are IT background. So normally what roles do they take up post their studies ?

Obviously I am only asking for a generic guidance and I do understand that it is not hard and fast

Specific to Infy-TCS-Wipro-IBM-Capgemini-Cognizant - these are the leading companies that are likely to hire good numbers from PGPX participants with IT background. The position offered are based on the past job profile.

3-8 yrs Exp are offered Business Analyst roles that require understanding the business requirement and converting to IT problem definitions. Salary range 12-18 Lakhs INR.
7-10 are offered IT Consulting roles 15-25 Lakhs INR
10-15 Senior consulting or IT Corporate roles(Marketing or Customer/Domain management) 15-35 Laks INR
15+ are sought for one-off specialised roles, as such candidates are rare and those who come are generally on probation.

Again these informations are in general. The packages and specific job functions vary with factors - your undergrad school(IIT, NIT and rest), B School(IIM, ISB, Tier1, Tier 2 etc) and your Work-ex (Company profile and your job profile).
