$$\sqrt{\frac{y^2}{2} - \frac{y^2}{18}} = \sqrt{\frac{9y^2}{18} - \frac{y^2}{18}} = \sqrt{\frac{8y^2}{18}} = \sqrt{\frac{4y^2}{9}} = |\frac{2y}{3}| = \frac{2}{3} * |y|$$
