D and C

A) relative pronoun "which" erroneously refer to Baltic Sea sediments
B) "these" refers to what?
C) "its" again has no referrent
E) What is consistent with the growth of industrial activity there? The Baltic sea sediments? The large concentrations of heavy-metal deposits? Anyhow, either one would have been wrong.
2-C is best as explained in a previous post.
