If I will only be working 1 year full time post graduation but have been working at the same place throughout my entire degree almost full time. Do I pass the two year full time job requirement?

Hello, future MBA candidates!

Jane Deutsch, the Director of Admissions and Career Development for LGO, has posted a blog that I think you might find useful. It addresses several of the questions you might have about the application. Take a look!

https://lgo.mit.edu/news/articles/lgo-application-faqs/lgo-application-faqs.html

Good luck with your apps,

How is the technical recommendation letter distinguished? From reading the websites and from the web chat yesterday, my interpretation is that the technical letter does not have a format or list of questions, so it's rather free-form... is that right?

How would I designate which one of my recommendations letters is the technical letter?

Hey redpringles,

When you put your recommenders into the application site, it sends them the email form to fill out. It's really more of a questionnaire with some "essay" questions instead of a traditional letter. If I recall correctly, there wasn't really much difference between the regular recommendations and the technical one. I believe they all got the same email form. The admissions office just wants one of them to be someone who can speak to your technical skills, since this information will be used by the engineering school as well as Sloan. Again, relying on my memory, I had my manager serve as my technical recommendation and mentioned that to him so he would shape his answers accordingly.

If you aren't sure about it, I'd suggest contacting the program office. They are always friendly and willing to help.

Good luck!

Hey everybody,

Since applications are due in a week, I wanted to post this video that our Director of Admissions made about applications.

I hope this helps!

Good luck,

Hi,

I am an aerospace engineer from India and I am in the process of preparing my application for the LGO program. Can anyone answer the following questions for me?

1. I am interested in the Engineering Systems track. If I go for it, can I still choose one or two classes from the Aerospace Engineering department as electives?
2. Which are the current sponsor companies that recruit international applicants?
3. Do companies like Boeing, Raytheon, UTC have security requirements which prevent them from hiring international applicants?

Thanks,
Rohan

Hi Rohan,

Regardless of your track, you can take pretty much whatever class you are interested in. There are two caveats for this that come to mind. First, some classes have prerequisites that you must have before taking the class (although this usually isn't enforced). Second, you must take enough classes to meet the requirements in both Sloan and your engineering track. This usually means you have to take 3 or 4 engineering classes in your track.

Your second two questions are harder to answer. The sponsor companies have different hiring goals every year, so one year a particular company may be hiring for a job that is appropriate for an international student and the next year they may not. The only companies that this is really an issue with are the companies with some defense-related business (e.g., Raytheon, UTC). These companies are subject to ITAR laws which dictate certain citizenship/work eligibility requirements for their employees on certain projects. I'm not sure how much Boeing is affected by that, since they have split up their business between Boeing Commercial Airplanes and Boeing Defense and Space. I wish I could give you a clearer answer. I can say this, in general, there are some job opportunities that are restrictive based on citizenship, but there are several international students in the program now. There are plenty of jobs for international students who are accepted into the program.

Good luck!

Hello everyone,

Has anyone received an interview invitation for LGO? I am guessing the invitations will go out in the middle of next week, but I am curious if anyone received an invitation yet.

Regards,
Steve S.

Hey Steve,

I was wondering the same thing. I looked up the post from last year and it appears as if everyone started receiving invites around the 12th of January. Hopefully, we start to find out soon.

yes I am. Today was Monday and nobody posted with an interview invite information... but then again, LGO has ~300 applicants and there's probably only a dozen or so on this forum, so it's an extremely small sample.

Very true. If it hasn't been said yet, if anyone reading this gets an interview invite, please post it to the forum. I am dying to find out when they start to send them out!

I haven't received one yet. I was thinking the same thing. As a matter of fact, I started to panic when I saw the gmatclub email in my inbox. I figured someone was saying they received an invite and I didn't!
