50% of students’ study science and 30% of science students score more than 80% marks in the exam. If 40% of all students(science + non-science) get more than 80% marks in exam, what percentage of non-science students score less than 80% marks?

let number of students = 100
S= science students
NS = Non Science Students

S=50 means NS = 50
S who score more than 80% = 0.3*50 = 15
40 students get more than 80%
NS who scoremore than 80% = 40-15=25
Total NS = 50
NS who score less than 80% = 50-25 = 25
percentage of NS who score less than 80% = 25/50 * 100 = 50%

Hence answer is C

IMHO C

Given 50% of students are science and rest are non science.

Of the science students only 30 % have scored more than 80%.

Given total number of students who have scored more than 80% is 40. Which is the mean score of more than 80% for the entire group.

Let us assume the number of students who have scored more than 80% in thenon science group to be x.

Using alligation and taking the given ratios of science to non science to be 1:1 we get.

X-40=10

X= 50%

Now the question asks what is the percentage of people in the non science group who have not got more than 80%.

Now this is 100% - x which is 50%.
Hence we get C
