This contains very small number and each square can be easily calculated..
$$\frac{6^2 - 4^2}{2^2}$$=$$\frac{36 - 16}{4} =5$$

If say the terms were big, then we should be able to take out the denominator from the numerator..
$$\frac{6^2 - 4^2}{2^2}$$=$$\frac{(2*3)^2 - (2*2)^2}{2^2}$$=$$\frac{2^23^2 - 2^22^2}{2^2} =\frac{2^2(3^2 - 2^2)}{2^2}=3^2-2^2=9-4=5$$
