Hi there. Im not sure if there should be debriefs for scores like mine, but here goes anyway.
I took the test in Kuala Lumpur. Was the only test taker. Self prepared for almost 2 months relying mostly on free prep materials from the official gmat maker as well as other available free sources online. Started off doing questions from the free veritas question bank. Then bought 5 practice tests from Veritas. didnt have time to complete all the sets though. Also did not have time to do the 2nd official gmat practice test. I set my goal at 730. My true goal was actually 700, but I figured I should inflate it a little. Not exactly sure now why I did that. My practice scores:
Veritas 600 (q35 v37)
GMATprep 600 (q37 v35)
Veritas 630 (q44 v33)
Veritas 660 (q46 v35)
Veritas 650 (q44 v35)
Veritas 600 (q43 v30)
Actual score: 620 (q45 v30)
I was pretty disappointed with this score especialy with the verbal score of 30. I only got this low verbal score once in the last practice test and even that I did half heartedly or lazily, heart and mind wasnt really into it. Funny thing is that the highest verbal score I ever got during preps was my very first practice test of 37. I would have thought that with more preparation I could push the verbal score to at least 40!
I am more of a math person so my target is around 50 for quant.
Perhaps my unrealistic taget of 730 might have resulted in me getting a lower score than I could have got based on my practice progress. For example, my guess is that in order to get a score of 700 and above, I must complete all questions. So my priority is to answer faster. In the end I managed to answer all quant questions and managed to answer 39 verbal questions. Maybe if I took more time to answer the verbal questions properly, I could have maybe got a better score (maybe 33ish) even if I complete only say 36 questions. Interestingly, when I got the highest score for verbal which was on my very 1st trial, at 37, I actually only managed to answer 35/41 questions!
I actually did consider this point after comparing subsequent test result when I managed to answer more questions but ended up getting lesser scores. But again my unrealistic target may have blurred my vision and path.
Thats all I can think to say for now. All the best for future sitters.
