KUDOS
You correctly came up to A and C.
However, in choice A I see a problem with the gerund "passing". The correct idiom is "to lead to something" not " to verb or gerund". if it was "led to the passing", which is of course incorrect idiom., I would favor A more.
So, I believe the answer choice C, correctly uses the noun passage all else being correct. My pick is C.
