Hi Guys,

So I had my test yesterday and got the following score:
680 (Q48, V35)

Well, the circumstances under which I got to give the test were unusual and the stress before the test definitely hurt my performance.

So a day before the test, I realized that my passport was missing. The night before, I was looking for it till like 2:30am. Next day my test was at 3 pm. So at 8 am I went to the test center and told them that I had a photocopy of my passport and a NYS license. They told me that in India, a passport is a must.

So I still didn't give up and called up the call center people. They told me that if I could get a police report, that might help my case. So I went to the police station and they directed me to the passport office. Anyways, at the end it came down to my getting the report at 2:30 pm. I was stressed out of my mind. I still made it to the center on time and managed to sit for the test. But I feel that lack of sleep and stress stopped me from getting the 700+ that I was actually aiming for =(

Study Materials Used:
1. OG 11th edition
2. PR Cracking the GMAT (Online CATs, AWA Section, SC section)
3. Kaplan (Quant, CATs on CD, Some drills on CD)
4. GmatPrep

The actual test was most similar to GMATPrep undoubtedly. I found the math section to be harder than I expected. I thought I was doing reasonably well on the Verbal but was disappointed with my score.

I guess at the end of the day, it's about keeping your nerves as it does not matter how you do on practice tests, but it's your actual score which is going to count.

I strongly recommend being completely rested before the test. So make sure you keep your ID safely atleast a week before the test so that you do'nt have to go through the stressful situation that I did.

So I am wondering whether or not to take the GMAT again. While my score is at or above the average for most of the schools, it's below the average for 2 schools:

1. Columbia

My profile is as follows:
23, female, Indian national

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science: 3.66 GPA (from RIT)
GMAT 680 (Q48, V35)
Post Bachelor's Work Ex: 2 years at the time of joining (1.5 yrs while applying)
Worked for over a year full-time during college (excluding summer jobs, paid co-ops)
A lot of extra-curricular involvement in college, some community service

I say go for it and take it again. Take it when you feel prepared but it's obvious that you spent a lot of mental strength the night before and the day of just dealing with the passport thing. You've probably prepared enough to top 700 but it's really a matter of how much more time you're willing to put into it. But I think 4-5 weeks is plenty of time to rest (just a bit) and then get back into the grind up to the next exam.

My 2 cents

I'd say retake if you think you can get 710+. A score of 660 - 700 will be (from a statistical point of view) the same score you already have. And any decline on your score won't help you much.

How will you know if can get a 710+? Prepare for the test as if you were about to take it, then take Gpreps or other mock exams. Then try to estimate scores. One tool to do so is:

http://www.gmatclub.com/content/resourc ... /index.php

The estimator above won't precisely predict the score you will get, but it's a good indication. Others say that Gprep scores alone are also good indicators (but not so much if you've already taken the exam and get some repeated questions).

Hope it helps. L.

Thanks for the feedback guys!
Even I'm kind of leaning towards retaking it.
I am thinking that I'll report my score right now and then take it. Only if I get a 710+ will I have my score sent to Columbia and Insead.

Sure this way will cost me more, but it's a safer route =)

Hi All,

This is my first post..I took my GMAT 2 weeks back and scored same 680 Q44,V39 and AWA 5. I am planning to apply in Kelloogg and GSB part time. Would like to know if this score enough or do i need to retake. Honestly I do not want to retake. I am in early 30's with wife and kid and so dont think I will be able to spend time again on taking the GMAT.

I am a Chartered Accountant, Cost Accountant and a CPA and I work for the most admired company...did not want to mention the name

I used to be a silent visitor to this forum and used the postings as my inspiration/ whup my ... , whenever i loose my concentration..

Thanks, ANand

Take it again.

Go over the OG11 one more time and retake the GMAT test.
