The number of cupcakes sold has to be an integer so X*85% has to be an integer.

-for \frac{X*85}{100} to be integer, X*85 has to have 2 zeros at the end.
-Inspecting the answers we see that all ending on 0 produce one zero at the end, so we eliminate B and have to find the second zero.
- The last digit will be formed by the product of the 5 (from 85) and the last non zero digit of the answer.
-The only one that produces a second 0 is 140 because 4*5=20. Every other option would generate a 5 resulting in xx.5.

We can check that 85% of 140 is 119, an integer. Answer: C

A quick way to arrive at the answer is: 85/100 = 17/20. since the no. of cupcakes baked should be an integer, it should be a multiple of 20. The only option in the answer choice that is divisible by 20 is 140. Hence, our answer.
