A can do a work in 15 days and B can do the same work in 20 days. If they work together for 4 days, then the fraction of work that has left is:

A) \(\frac{1}{4}\)

B) \(\frac{1}{5}\)

C)\(\frac{1}{10}\)

D) \(\frac{7}{15}\)

E) \(\frac{8}{15}\)

We use the formula work = rate x time. The work completed in 4 days is:

(1/15) x 4 + (1/20) x 4 = 4/15 + 4/20 = 16/60 + 12/60 = 28/60 = 7/15

In 4 days, we see that 7/15 of the job has been completed. So, 1 - 7/15 = 15/15 - 7/15 = 8/15 of the job is left to be completed.
