A certain car averages 25 miles per gallon of gasoline when driven in the city and 40 miles when driven on the highway.Acc. to these rates which of the foll. Is closest to the no. of miles per gallon that the car averages when it is driven 10 miles in the city and then 50 miles on the highway?

The car uses 10/25 gallons in the city and 50/40 gallons on the highway for a total of 33/20 gallons.

It drives a total of 60 miles, therefore uses 60/(33/20) miles per gallon = 36
