a certain clock marks every hour by striking a number of times equal to the hour, and the time required for a stroke is exactly equal to the time interval between strokes. At 6:00 the time lapse between the beginning of the first stroke and the end of the last stroke is 22 seconds. At 12:00, how many seconds elapse between the beginning of the first stroke and the end of the last stroke?

A 72
B 50
C 48
D 46
E 44

the time for a stroke is x, as per question time interval between between strokes is also x

at 6, number of strokes = 6, number of intervals = 5 .. 11x = 22 --> x =2 seconds

at 12, number of strokes = 12, number of intervals = 11
total time = 23*x = 46 ... option D

I don't get it. Why would you count a stroke of the clock as part of an internval of time?

The problem says 22 seconds elapsed during the 6 o'clock striking. there are 5 intervals.

Why would you add 5 intervals to 6 strikings?? how does this equal time elapsed?

why do you assume the clock striking as an interval?? how do you know it takes 2 seconds to process a strike??

please post explaination!! this question is driving me crazy!!

6:00 - |stroke|pause|stroke|pause|stroke|pause|stroke|pause|stroke|pause|stroke|
6 strokes + 5 pauses = 11 equal intervals ---> a interval (stroke or pause) = 22 sec / 11 = 2 sec

12:00 - |stroke|pause|stroke|pause|stroke|pause|stroke|pause|stroke|pause|stroke|pause|stroke|pause|stroke|pause|stroke|pause|stroke|pause|stroke|pause|stroke|
12 strokes + 11 pauses = 23 equal intervals ---> total time = 2 sec * 23 = 46 sec
