From statement 1:

Only Cost price of apple and orange juice is given. No info about selling price.
Insufficient.

From statement 2:

A number of cans of apples juice X are greater than the Number of cans of orange juice Y. No info about selling price.
Insufficient.

Combining also gives no info about selling price.

GMATbuster's Weekly Quant Quiz#11 Ques #1

A deli sells both orange Juice and apple Juice. A case of apple Juice contains x bottles; a case of orange Juice contains y bottles. Does the store make a greater profit per bottle from the sale of apple Juice or from orange Juice?

1) The dell purchases a case of apple Juice for the same amount of money as it does a case of orange Juice.
2) x > y

No of bottle of apple juice x price per bottle = revenue by selling apple juice
No of bottle of orange juice x price per bottle = revenue by selling orange juice
i) since price of both orange juice and apple juice is same but it is not given how many bottle of each type is purchased by dell-so not sufficient
ii)since x>y may be price of apple juice is less than orange juice so not sufficient
i+ii combine price of both is same and no of apple juice bottle is > than orange juice
So store make greater profit from sale if apple juice than orange juice

in order to determine what makes greater profit per bottle : apple juice or organge juice . we need number of bottles of each type and profit ( revenue -cost)
St1. Cost is same for apple and organge juice .- not sufficient info we dont know anything abt neither revenue or quantity of bottles
St2 more apple juice bottles ; still not sufficient

profit = sales - cost
case of apple juice contain x bottles
case of orange juice contains y bottles

to find - greater profit per bottle from the sale of apple Juice or from orange Juice

statement 1
purchase price of both the cases is same
but we are not given the value of x or y so we dont know cost price per bottle
total profit = sale of apple - cost of apple
total profit / total no. of apple bottles = profit per bottle
similarly with orange bottle

we are not provided with any of them ( sale price or cost price)
statement 1 insufficient

statement 2
x> y
we dont know anything about sales or purchase of bottles
statement 2 insufficient

both
x> y
purchase price same for both cases
cost of per bottle in case is less of apple bottles
but we are not still provided any info about sales we cant find the profit

both statements are not sufficient

option E is correct

Apple case contains x bottle.
Orange juice contains y bottle.

Statement 1: total cost apple case = total cost of orange case.
Insufficient

Statement 2: x>y
Insufficient

Both statements : Price per bottle is less for apple than orange.
We still don't know about the selling price per bottle.
Insufficient
