Since the sticker price of the file cabinet is 52$ and a 15 percent discount is offered.
The discount can be computed as 5.2+2.6 = 7.8$
The price at which the purchase happens is 44.2$, on which we are charged 5% taxes
5% of 44.2 is 2.21, which when added to the purchase price, gives us the sale price
which is 44.2 + 2.21 = 46.41$(Option D)

I used @pushpitkc' s method because these are not "nice" numbers.

That said, multiplying the multipliers (the decimal value of percent increase or decrease), then multiplying that product by original quantity, is often very fast in successive percent change problems.

Multipliers:

15% off means 100% - 15% = 85%, written as 1 - .15 = .85

5% sales tax means 100% + 5% = 105%, written as 1 + .05 = 1.05

Multiply the multipliers:
(.85)(1.05) = .8925

Then multiply that product by original value: (.8925) * (52) = 46.41

Answer D

With the 15% discount, the file cabinet costs 52 x 0.85 = 44.20 dollars.

Adding 5% sales tax, the cost of purchasing the cabinet is 44.2 x 1.05 = $46.41.

Answer: D

Original Cost = $52
After 15% off, Sale price = 0.85 * 52 = 44.2$

After including sales tax of 5% of the purchase price , it would cost = 44.2 * 1.05 = 46.41 $

Answer D.

\(52*\frac{115}{100}*\frac{85}{100}\)

= \(46.41\)

Thus, the answer must be (D) 46.41
