Solution

Given

• Two sides of a right-angled triangle.
o One of the perpendicular sides, $$\frac{y}{2}$$
o The hypotenuse = y
o $$y^2$$ = 2

To Find

• Area of the triangle

Approach and Working Out

• Ratio of one perpendicular side to the hypotenuse is $$\frac{y}{2}$$: y
o We can infer that the side ratio will be 1: √3: 2.
o Sides are $$\frac{y}{2}$$, $$\frac{√3y}{2}$$, y
• Area of the triangle,
o ½ × $$(y/2)$$ × ($$\frac{√3y}{2}$$)
o √3$$y^2$$/8

o (√3 × $$2^2$$)/8

o $$\frac{√3}{2}$$
