A furniture store reduces the retail price of a sofa from $800 to $600. By what percent is the price of the sofa reduced?

(A) 25%
(B) 30%
(C) 35%
(D) 60%
(E) 75%

The retail price of the sofa reduces by $200($800 - $600)

Therefore, the price of the sofa was reduced by \(\frac{200}{800} * 100 = 25\)% (Option A)

The percent reduction is:

(600 - 800)/800 x 100

-200/800 x 100 = -200/8 = -25%

Answer: A

Formula of percent change (New value - Previous value)/ Previous value

Percent change = (600 - 800)/ 800 = - 200 / 800 = - 1/4 = -0.25 ...............Negative sign means reduction.

This can be treated as ratios:
200/800 = 1/4 = 0.25
25% is the ans.

Old price = $800

New price = $600

% reduction in the price = \(\frac{(800 - 600)}{800}\)

\(25\)%

Hence (A)
