A group of scientists studying calcium metabolism in laboratory rats discovered that removing the rats’ parathyroid glands resulted in the rats’ having substantially lower than normal levels of calcium in their blood. This discovery led the scientists to hypothesize that the function of the parathyroid gland is to regulate the level of calcium in the blood by raising that level when it falls below the normal range. Clearly A
remove Parathyroid -->decrease level of calcium
both remove Parathyroid & Adrenal --> decrease but less than before
--> remove Adrenal -->increase level of calcium
--> not remove Adrenal (remains in rat's body) --> decrease level of calcium

C. does not support initial discovery.
E. neutral to the surprising discovery.

Hence, B should be the answer.

Excellent explanation. It took me lot of time to understand why it's A!

We can take this question as cause and effect question :

removal of Parathyroid --> level of calcium decreases (either bcoz of absence of parathyroid or something else leads to the decrease)
since , its given parathyroid controls the calcium level that means something else decreasing the ca level.
both remove Parathyroid & Adrenal --> decrease in calcium gets slower ---> It means Adrenal was responsible for the decrease in the ca levels.

this is a LSAT question, and the passage is quite long.
Nevertheless, the pattern in this question is similar to that of gmat questions.
B is a trap b/c of "same role". C,D,E are too extreme.
