i selected E : has been selected to test a new low-cost electronic notepad being
built around a new class of green, power-stingy microchips that use a
fraction of the electricity used by current computer chips

following bold portions, which came to my notice in first go, are wrong .

A. has been selected for testing a new low-cost electronic notepad being built
around a new class of green, power-stingy microchips that use a fraction of
the electricity of current computer chips

B. have been selected to test a new low-cost electronic notepad being built
around a new class of green, power-stingy microchips that use a fraction of
the electricity used by current computer chips

C. has been selected to test a new low-cost electronic notepad to be built on a
new class of green microchips, which are also power-stingy and which use a
fraction of the electricity used by current computer chips--------->no need for parallelism

D. have been selected for testing a new low-cost electronic notepad being built
around a new class of green, power-stingy microchips that use a fraction of
the electricity of current computer chips

E. has been selected to test a new low-cost electronic notepad being
built around a new class of green, power-stingy microchips that use a
fraction of the electricity used by current computer chips --------->correct

Is the use of "that" for plural "microchips" correct?
or microchips is used a singular noun, which most likely is the case?

First split is Has Vs Have
Singular collective noun "Group" requires Singular Verb Has.

second split - "To test" Vs "For Testing", both are correct and hence this split will not be useful

Third split - "notepad being built" Vs "notepad to be built" tough "notepad being built" sounds correct in current scenario.

Option B and D are out, Let's focus on option A,C and E

Option A. has been selected for testing a new low-cost electronic notepad being built
around a new class of green, power-stingy microchips that use a fraction of
the electricity of current computer chips

fraction of the electricity of current computer chips - is incorrect, it should be in comparative mode , comparing fraction used by new chips Vs fraction used by old chip
Incorrect

Option C. has been selected to test a new low-cost electronic notepad to be built on a
new class of green microchips, which are also power-stingy and which use a
fraction of the electricity used by current computer chips

which are also power-stingy and which use a fraction of the electricity used by current computer chips
which are also is wrong, both the features must be presented in parallel structure.

Also, "notepad to be built " it sound wrong, not sure if it is wrong grammatically.

E. has been selected to test a new low-cost electronic notepad being
built around a new class of green, power-stingy microchips that use a
fraction of the electricity used by current computer chips

new class of green, power-stingy correctly modifies "microchips " ,
"use a fraction of the electricity used by current computer chips" correct compares the electricity consumption.

Option E is correct.

Will take an attempt on this...

A group is singular, so we will require a has rather than a have, removed B and D.

Generally being is used for "in the process of"

A. has been selected for testing a new low-cost electronic notepad being built around a new class of green, power-stingy microchips that use a fraction of the electricity of current computer chips - incorrect comparison between the usage of one type and a type(it should had been usage of another type)

C. has been selected to test a new low-cost electronic notepad to be built on a new class of green microchips, which are also power-stingy and which use a fraction of the electricity used by current computer chips - Wordier, why repeat the pronoun "which", are there 2 type of green microchips ??

E. has been selected to test a new low-cost electronic notepad being built around a new class of green, power-stingy microchips that use a fraction of the electricity used by current computer chips - this correctly addresses the usage, by saying " use a fraction of the electricity used by"

Correct Answer E.

IMO E

Group indicates singular. Option c doesn't use the second "which" correctly.

I had selected option B instead of E for the following reasons:
'Group of students' is singular BUT 'A group of students' must be plural so 'have been' will come, isn't?

On the other hand, if the question stem was either 'The group of students' or 'group of students', it would have been singular and hence we would have used 'has been'.

Where am I going wrong? daagh sir pls guide :please

A group of students is singular. Usages differ in language. Following one case to suit another case will lead to error.

Please explain ' - whether we consider usage of A and THE as plural and singular with word ' NUMBER/S' only ?

Also here, the low-cost electronic notepad is singular so isnt it suppose to take singular verb 'USES' instead of 'USE' in the correct answer choice E ?
